Background / History

Cana joined Fairy Tail at six years old. She taught herself Card Magic from guild books because it could produce sellable magic cards, allowing her to support herself rather than depend on help from others. She later paid off her debts, donated to the church, and bought food for orphanage children. 4 23

She is Gildarts Clive’s daughter, though Gildarts remains unaware of this for much of the documented story. Cana initially suspects that Aibo is another of Gildarts’s children because of his hair color, early use of Crush Magic, and the guild’s “Little Gildarts” jokes. This belief strengthens her attachment to Aibo while worsening her resentment toward Gildarts. 1 3 8 10 26

Personality

Her independence stems from her early decision to support herself through Card Magic rather than burden others. However, she is also insecure about falling behind stronger guildmates—particularly Erza, Laxus, and Mirajane. She initially became lax in training after abandoning her repeated duels with Erza, but later chose to work harder rather than be left behind. 20 21 24
