Background / History

Naruto was born with the Nine-Tails sealed inside him. The fox's chakra constantly leaked into his body, strengthening him while disrupting his chakra system; this left him capable in taijutsu but poor at basic techniques such as the Clone Technique. Much of Konoha treated him as a monster rather than recognizing him as the jinchūriki containing the creature that attacked the village. 35 37

He first befriended Hyuga Hayato through Ichiraku Ramen, immediately offering to protect Hayato as a “little brother.” Hayato later tells Naruto that the village fears the fox within him—not Naruto himself—and calls him the village's hero for containing it. 10 37

After stealing the Book of Seals and learning the Multiple Shadow Clone Technique, Naruto defeats Mizuki with more than a hundred clones. At Hayato's urging, he enters his seal's inner space and speaks directly with the Nine-Tails for the first time. Naruto refuses to free it after it promises to destroy Konoha. 36 37
