Background / History

Ōtsutsuki mission

Kaguya Otsutsuki came to the ancient world with Ōtsutsuki Isshiki to cultivate a God Tree and harvest its Chakra Fruit. As the lower-ranked member of their pair, she was intended to become the Ten-Tails' sacrifice once the fruit matured. Rather than accept that fate, she secretly planned to feed Isshiki to the Ten-Tails and consume the fruit herself. 452

She confided this plan to Wuye after deciding he would not betray her. Her goal was not simply power, but freedom from an existence in which the Ōtsutsuki Clan treated her as a disposable tool. 447 452

When Isshiki arrived for the harvest, Kaguya ambushed him with the Divine Void Strike and sent him into the Ten-Tails' mouth. She followed with a barrage of Eighty Divine Void Strikes, but Isshiki escaped in a reduced form before she could confirm his death. 474

Kaguya was later restrained and sealed by Hagoromo and Hamura Ōtsutsuki using Yin-Yang Release. Wuye reached the moon, extracted her soul from the seal, and placed it into her sister's body to revive her. 475

Connection to Hyuga Kaguya

When Wuye encountered Kaguya Otsutsuki in the past, both noticed that she and Hyuga Kaguya shared the same appearance, habits, and unique techniques. Kaguya Otsutsuki recognized that Hyuga Kaguya resembled a future version of herself, while Wuye explained that Kaguya had shared her abilities with him. 445

Kaguya Otsutsuki later explained that souls influence one another over time even when memories are not shared. Her soul was described as possessing Kaguya's complete soul, linking the two incarnations emotionally and spiritually. 456

Hyuga Clan head

As Hyuga Clan Head, Kaguya entered the dispute over Hyuga Wuye's clan affiliation and firmly declared that neither the Hokage nor the Uchiha Clan could take him from the Hyuga Clan. 23

After Hyuga Naoya was accused of arranging Kotone's death and attempting to sell Wuye to the Uchiha, Kaguya subdued him with her newly awakened Byakugan: Pressure. She challenged Naoya to accept the abolition of the Great Elder position if Wuye defeated him by age twelve, then took Wuye under her protection as his “big sister.” 26

Kaguya revealed that Kotone had died on an S-rank mission against Salamander Hanzo. Concerned that Wuye had lost his last family connection, she brought him to Tsunade and invoked a favor to ask Tsunade to accept him as a disciple. 29

Sacrifice and return

When Kushina collapsed following Kurama's extraction, Kaguya chose to save her by exchanging her own soul. 361

Kaguya used her life force to restore Kushina, instructing Wuye to divide Kurama's chakra evenly between Kushina and himself. She accepted that her soul might be reborn without its memories. 363

Her apparent detachment extends to fame and public opinion; she showed little interest in being called the Byakugan Princess. However, her indifference does not apply to Wuye. She admits, at least to herself, that he is the person she values above everyone else. 139 209

Kaguya is also observant and analytical. She identified the unusual mechanics of Chiyo's revival technique after a brief observation, and she quickly understood the imbalance between Wuye's spiritual and physical energy. 28 138
