Background / History

Obito first operated anonymously in a hooded robe and tiger-striped mask. Declaring that the “false world” should not exist, he summoned the Nine-Tails into Konoha and watched its rampage from afar. He later encountered Itachi during a mission and killed two of Itachi’s companions, an event that triggered Itachi’s Mangekyō Sharingan awakening. 2 5

On the Night of the Red Moon, the Masked Man infiltrated the Uchiha compound and moved to attack Izumi. He fought Fugaku and Itachi with Madara’s war fan, the Seven Stars Scythe, and Kamui, but Sasuke used Shisui’s Kotoamatsukami through Itachi’s crow to force him to obey Sasuke unconditionally. Ordered to reveal himself, he removed his mask and identified himself as Uchiha Obito. 16 17

Under Sasuke’s command, Obito abandoned his attack on the Uchiha and was sent to assassinate Danzo. He pursued Danzo through repeated uses of Izanagi, countering with Kamui, Fire Release, and the Demonic Statue of the Outer Path before ultimately killing him. Sasuke then instructed Obito to live openly as Obito while using the mask and one-eyed “Uchiha Madara” identity as Akatsuki’s hidden mastermind. 18 19 22

Obito later rescued Zabuza from Kakashi, protected Sasuke’s position against Orochimaru’s ambitions, and joined Sasuke, Orochimaru, and Nagato in a plan to revive Rin. Rin’s resurrection briefly brought out his remorse, but her defense of Kakashi reignited his jealousy and resentment; he subsequently attacked Kakashi, who finally recognized him in the Kamui dimension. 32 45 66 68

After recovering both of his Kamui eyes, Obito stopped wearing his mask and gained the Kamui Mark. Despite this change, his instability remained evident when he brutally attacked the weakened Three-Tails simply because he disliked seeing it.
