Background
The technique is the Uchiha Clan's distinct form of Body Flicker. While any ninjutsu or taijutsu capable of instantaneous movement may be called a Body Flicker Technique, this version creates combat-capable shadow clones and permits the user to exchange positions with them 5.
Shisui Uchiha, whose signature technique it is, taught it to Sasuke at the Uchiha Training Ground. Sasuke learned its basic operation after watching Shisui demonstrate it once, though his first clone collapsed during the position exchange because it lacked sufficient strength 5.
Abilities & Mechanics
Clone Creation and Combat
The user creates several high-quality shadow clones that can join attacks rather than immediately dispersing on contact.
- Clones can attack alongside the original body. 5
- The technique produced four to five clones in Shisui's demonstration and seven clones during his clash with Orochimaru. 5 13
- Sasuke later created five clones, allowing six identical Sasukes to attack Obito from multiple directions. 17
- Sasuke's clones can use ninjutsu, including Fire Release and Lightning Release techniques. 35
- Its clones were realistic enough that Hyuga Hizashi's Byakugan could not distinguish one from Sasuke's true body. 27
Position Exchange
The original body can instantly switch places with one of its clones, making the technique both a movement tool and a deception method.
- In Shisui's demonstration, a clone moved ten meters away before the nearby clones dispersed and Shisui's original body appeared at the distant position. 5
- Sasuke's first attempted exchange succeeded in moving him but caused his clone to collapse mid-swap. 5
- Sasuke used the confusion from his clones against Obito, concealing Itachi's crow inside a dispersing clone to create an opening for Kotoamatsukami. 17
- He later left a Body Flicker Shadow Clone behind as an instant return point while pursuing Zabuza. 36
Limitations
- Though capable of attacking, the clones are substantially weaker than the original body. 5
- Insufficient clone strength can cause a clone to collapse during a position exchange. 5
- Orochimaru had studied the technique and neutralized Shisui's seven clones with snakes, leaving only one figure standing. 13
