Background & History

During the Third Shinobi World War, Jiraiya remained in the Land of Rain after the fighting ended and taught three war orphans—including Konan—ninjutsu and survival skills. Years later, evidence tying Akatsuki to Amegakure leads him to suspect that its leader, Pain, is his former student Nagato. 47

He personally trains Naruto Uzumaki, pushing him to draw on—but not depend upon—the Nine-Tails’ chakra. Under Jiraiya’s instruction, Naruto learns the Summoning Jutsu and successfully calls Gamabunta. 16

After Itachi Uchiha and Kisame Hoshigaki attack Naruto and Sasuke, Jiraiya checks their injuries and carries the mentally traumatized Sasuke back to Konoha. 19
