Background / History

Deidara participated in Akatsuki’s operation against Gaara and fled from Naruto and Kakashi on clay constructs after Gaara’s extraction. Kakashi’s Kamui tore off his right arm, forcing Deidara to retreat while badly wounded. He escaped using a prepared clay grasshopper. 27

While treating the wound, Deidara was approached by Yunju, who gave him medicine and described his explosions as beautiful rather than heretical. The exchange earned Yunju unusual respect from Deidara, who gave him a small clay spider and agreed to alert him if he moved against Itachi Uchiha. 29
