Ch. 741Golden Magikarp

Gary and his companions fished with aquarium owner Rudan in hopes of finding the legendary Golden Magikarp. After catching many ordinary Pokémon, Serena hooked another Magikarp-like Pokémon, and Gary noticed that something about it was unusual.

  • Rudan told Gary, Rosa, Hilda, and Serena the legend of a Golden Magikarp that had rescued a drowning fisherman, and explained that he hoped to bring one to his aquarium.
  • After Rudan caught an ordinary Magikarp, Serena suggested that everyone fish, and Rudan lent them Fishing Rods.
  • Gary caught and released a Horsea, while Rosa and the others caught mostly ordinary Magikarp and other Pokémon with poor potential.
  • As evening fell without any sign of the Golden Magikarp, Serena's Fishing Rod shook, and she reeled in a Magikarp-like Pokémon.
  • Rosa dismissed the catch as another ordinary Magikarp, but Gary noticed something unusual about it.

Ch. 742Rudan's Gift

Serena caught the Golden Magikarp Rudan had long hoped to see, then chose to release it back into the sea rather than keep it or place it in Rudan’s aquarium. Rudan rewarded Serena with a Mystic Water, and he decided to keep fishing for a Golden Magikarp of his own.

  • Gary recognized the Magikarp Serena caught as the legendary Golden Magikarp, and Rudan celebrated seeing it at last.
  • Serena asked Rudan whether his aquarium could care for the Golden Magikarp, but he explained that it belonged in the sea.
  • Serena released the Golden Magikarp into the ocean, and Gary, Rosa, and Hilda supported her choice.
  • Rudan gave Serena a Mystic Water as a token of appreciation, and she accepted it after Gary, Rosa, and Hilda encouraged her.
  • Rudan said he would keep fishing and try to catch a Golden Magikarp with his own abilities.

Ch. 743Laverre Gym

Gary and his companions arrived in Laverre City and went to challenge Valerie at Laverre Gym, which was built inside a mountain. The chapter ended with Gary reaching the summit arena ahead of Valerie and the girls, ready for the Gym Battle.

  • Gary, Rosa, Hilda, and Serena arrived in Laverre City and stayed overnight at its Pokémon Center.
  • The group went to Laverre Gym, where Valerie greeted Gary and explained that the Gym’s arena was at the top of a climbing wall inside the mountain.
  • Valerie told the challengers they could climb the wall or take an elevator, and Gary chose to climb with Valerie while the girls rode the elevator.
  • Gary quickly overtook Valerie and reached the summit arena before the elevator opened with Rosa, Hilda, and Serena inside.

Ch. 744Battle Against Valerie

Gary began his Laverre Gym battle against Valerie, agreeing to use only two Pokémon despite the challenger being allowed to use his full team. Grovyle struck Valerie’s Onix with Energy Ball, and the battle continued.

  • Gary, Serena, Rosa, and Valerie reached the cliff-top arena, where Valerie explained that climbing helped challengers focus.
  • Gary and Valerie agreed to battle for the Laverre Gym Badge under rules allowing Valerie two Pokémon and Gary his full team, though Gary chose to use only two.
  • Valerie sent out Onix, and Gary chose Grovyle, surprising Valerie with its evolution.
  • Grovyle dodged Onix’s Flash Cannon and Stone Edge, then landed an Energy Ball at close range that knocked Onix to the ground.

Ch. 745Battle Against Tyrunt

Gary’s Grovyle defeated Valerie’s Onix, and Gary sent out Shelgon to face Valerie’s Tyrunt. Shelgon endured Tyrunt’s attacks while building its defense to the maximum, leaving Gary ready to counterattack.

  • Valerie surprised Gary by having Onix use Take Down, but Grovyle recovered and continued battling.
  • Grovyle dodged Onix’s Rock Slide, avoided Iron Tail with Double Team, and knocked Onix out with a powerful Energy Ball.
  • Valerie sent out Tyrunt, and Gary switched Grovyle for Shelgon.
  • Shelgon used Iron Defense to withstand Tyrunt’s Rock Tomb and repeated Rock Slide attacks without taking damage.
  • After Shelgon’s defense reached its peak, Gary told Valerie that it was his turn to attack.

  • Valerie praised Gary's skill and awarded him the Cliff Badge.
  • Rosa began her Gym battle against Valerie with Combusken while Gary, Hilda, and Serena watched.
  • Rosa and Hilda defeated Valerie and earned the Cliff Badge, leaving Valerie to reflect on their strength.

Ch. 747Mi Rufi and the Poké Puff Competition

Gary and his friends met Mi Rufi and her Slurpuff, whose criticism of Serena’s Poké Puffs sparked a rivalry. Gary suggested they settle it in the town’s Poké Puff Competition, and both girls entered.

  • Serena served Poké Puffs to Gary and the others, but a Slurpuff used psychic powers to steal and eat one.
  • Mi Rufi appeared and said Slurpuff thought Serena’s Poké Puff tasted just so-so.
  • Mi Rufi offered her own Poké Puffs, which Gary, the others, and their Pokémon praised.
  • Serena and Mi Rufi argued over their Poké Puff-making skills until Rosa separated them.
  • Gary pointed out the town’s Poké Puff Competition, and Mi Rufi and Serena both agreed to enter.
