Konoha is regarded as the foremost of the Five Great Nations. Entry into the Land of Fire is permitted to foreign ninja, but they are closely monitored, while Konoha itself maintains strict identity checks and heavily guarded defenses. Following the Fourth Hokage's death, Konoha suffered a period of decline marked by Orochimaru's defection, Tsunade's departure, Jiraiya's travels, the Uchiha Clan's destruction, and the withdrawal of several veteran fighters from public life. History

Chūnin Exams and Orochimaru's invasion

Konoha hosted a multinational Chūnin Exam attended by ninja from Sand, Cloud, Stone, Sound, and other villages. The gathering showcased Konoha's young generation but also created the opening for Orochimaru's attack. 147

Orochimaru's Sound and Sand forces attacked from all sides while Kabuto placed the audience under genjutsu. Orochimaru confronted the Third Hokage, used Impure World Reincarnation to summon the First and Second Hokage, and attempted to destroy Konoha's leadership. 181 183 184

Jiraiya protected the village from Orochimaru's Eight-Headed Serpent, while Yang Ming later intervened against Orochimaru and the reincarnated Hokage in exchange for one million ryō. His Wood Release forced Orochimaru's retreat. 182 189 190

Yuexia Ming's recruitment

After witnessing Yuexia's power during the invasion, the Third Hokage offered him Konoha membership, elite-jōnin status, access to Konoha's missions and resources, and the prospect of an offensive-defensive alliance with the Kingdom of Grass. 199 200

The Grass Daimyo and Grass Shadow accepted the arrangement without consulting Yuexia's wishes. In response, Yuexia severed his ties with the Kingdom of Grass and chose to settle in Konoha, where he began accepting missions before his public investiture. 201 202

Akatsuki and Kabuto's assault

Kabuto invaded Konoha with an Impure World Reincarnation army that included former Kage and jinchūriki. The attacking force exploited intelligence that Yuexia had left the village, considering Konoha vulnerable in his absence. 395

Seven jinchūriki then formed a Tailed Beast Bomb capable of destroying much of Konoha. Yuexia used Fivefold Rashōmon to redirect the attack into the Forest of Death, then deployed Wood Release: Flower Tree Realm Dance to weaken enemies across a five-hundred-meter area. 400

Deidara's C0 Self-Destruct later destroyed half of Konoha. Yuexia restored the village across a 100-kilometer radius with Ultra Wood Release, creating rows of new houses and leaving the Hokage's office unrepaired as a warning to the leadership. 407 412

Fourth Shinobi World War

As Madara's threat escalated, Tsunade presented Yuexia's proposal to turn the conflict into a united war between all shinobi and Akatsuki. The Five Kage subsequently formed the Allied Shinobi Forces. 421

Konoha became a central battlefield during the conflict. Its shinobi faced White Zetsu infiltration, reincarnated Kage, tailed-beast attacks, and the Ten-Tails' forces. Naruto ultimately lifted the Infinite Tsukuyomi and was recognized across the world as the shinobi world's savior. 432 457 524

Reconstruction and modernization

After the war, Konoha began rebuilding alongside the rest of the shinobi world. Yuexia returned to reconstruct the Hyuga Clan's destroyed homes and other damaged areas free of charge, again excluding the Hokage's office from his work. 529

The subsequent peace brought economic growth and modernization across the Five Great Nations. Konoha remained a major destination for travelers, especially after the development of railcars, while Naruto advanced through the ranks and later became Hokage. 531 593

Relationships

• Kingdom of Grass — The Third Hokage proposed an offensive-defensive alliance while recruiting Yuexia Ming. The Grass Daimyo and Grass Shadow accepted Konoha's offer, leading to Yuexia's move to Konoha. 199 201
