This was a medium-sized gnoll tribe. The entire tribe had no more than two thousand Black Iron-rank professionals, though that was still more than the number of soldiers in this regiment.
But professionals and professional soldiers were two entirely different things.
These modified goblin soldiers wore full sets of enchanted armor, and the weapons in their hands had also been enchanted.
As for the professionals of this gnoll tribe, only a small fraction possessed enchanted equipment. Enchanted weapons were scarce, let alone armor.
When combat professionals fought each other, having armor or lacking it made all the difference. Someone in enchanted armor could at least take on three enemies of equal combat strength who had no armor.
If the enemies were somewhat weaker and lacked the will to fight, one could even fight five at once.
The battle erupted without warning. The spell support company at the center of the regiment cast a war spell. A massive negative-energy explosion detonated in the middle of the tribe's defensive line, instantly killing dozens of gnoll soldiers and wounding many more.
