History

Fall and severed inheritance

Nanyang Sect was originally the foremost of the Seven Sons of Southern Flood. Its sect master, elders, and disciples lived within a Dao-Union blessed land, where the sect master could turn its inhabitants into Dao servants whose cultivation and lives were bound to the master’s will 429 459.

The public account held that the sect was surrounded by the Thousand Demon Grotto less than three months after taking the name “Nanyang,” forcing the few survivors to rename themselves Parasol Tree Mountain 343. The later-revealed truth was more destructive: the grotto’s spirit hound slaughtered the mortal descendants of Nanyang cultivators, raised demons and fiends with spirit medicine, occupied the inner sect, and severed its inheritance 408.

During Nanyang’s final crisis, its previous sect master consumed the cultivators within the blessed land in a last attempt to save it 429. The sect master and elders had left behind ten Dao Plaques; nine were destroyed, while one remained outside Nanyang in Parasol Tree Mountain’s possession 408.

Reopening of Nanyang

Shen Yi entered Nanyang’s Scripture Vault and uncovered surviving Return to Void methods, formations, pill formulas, and other fragments of the sect’s inheritance 376 377 393. After reaching Spirit Transformation perfection, he used the Nanyang Relief to reopen the sect gates and return to its main hall 430.

Li Xuanqing, a former direct disciple transformed into a wooden man, ultimately reopened the sect-protecting formation and returned the Dao Tablet to Nanyang 465. The six allied sects then formally recognized Shen Yi’s control of Nanyang, returned its former vassals to his authority, and withdrew from its internal affairs 466.

At the Seven Sons Assembly, Shen Yi was publicly acknowledged as the Nanyang Sect Master after killing Heavenly Sword Sect elder Liu Xingshan with a single strike 516.

Dao Union with Shen Yi

Shen Yi later suppressed five Dao weapons and became an incarnation of Nanyang heaven and earth. The spiritual breath within the treasure land thereafter became his qi, binding the lives of its inhabitants to him as Dao servants 558.

Unlike Nanyang’s former master, Shen Yi regarded the bond as a responsibility. Upon sensing the people throughout the treasure land, he recognized that their lives now rested upon his shoulders 558.

Governance and authority

• Sect Master — The Nanyang Sect Master governs the Dao-Union blessed land and can command its formations, spiritual qi, and the lives of Dao servants within it 429 558.
• Dao Tablet — Represents an immortal post and serves as the key to Nanyang’s sect-protecting formations when placed within the main hall 429 465.
• Dao Plaques — The former sect master and elders left ten plaques capable of activating Nanyang’s formations; only one survived outside the sect after the destruction of the other nine 408.
• Stewards and deacons — Shen Yi rebuilt the sect’s administration with disciples, guest elders, and cultivators transferred from subordinate factions 471 479.
• Outer sect — Following the restoration of Thousand Demon Grotto, Nanyang began selecting talented cultivators from several factions, including Great Qian, for outer-sect instruction under Return to Void deacons 497.

Treasure land and facilities

Nanyang Treasure Land

The Nanyang Treasure Land is the sect’s central blessed land and its most valuable possession. Its formations protect the sect during cultivation, conceal its internal affairs, and make it difficult for outsiders to interfere with breakthroughs or seize control of the land 429 459.

After its restoration, the former Thousand Demon Grotto was transformed into a cultivation sanctuary filled with immortal aura 497.

Scripture Vault

• Contains cultivation systems ranging from Qi Refinement to Return to Void, as well as pill formulas, spirit-body methods, formations, and Dao Palace techniques 377 393.
• Retrieval from the vault requires a decree; ancient tomes and shelves are protected by formations 376.
• Shen Yi discovered the Return to Void cultivation method and the movement technique Dragon Leaps the Heavenly Gate within the vault 377.
• The vault also preserves the Six-Pillar Nanyang Palace-Raising Method, a Dao Palace method using Dao Pillars measured through the Pillar-Measuring Ruler 436.

Nanyang Relief and main platform

The sect entrance is marked by a vast white-jade platform carved with a Nanyang relief. Eight dragon-and-phoenix pillars support a blazing-sun stone carving above it 427.

Nanyang’s Dharma robes and reliefs use blazing-sun patterns, making the sect’s symbolism immediately recognizable to allied cultivators and enemies alike 416 516.

Vassals and dependent factions

The allied sects returned a roster of Nanyang’s former vassals to Shen Yi after recognizing him as sect master 466. Nanyang sought to reclaim control of 182 subordinate factions while its own restored foundation remained comparatively weak 468.
