Teachings and Cultivation
Lotus Platform Methods
The sect’s Lotus Platform Methods are regarded as exceptionally valuable inheritances, comparable in prestige to the Three Immortals Sect’s true Immortal Venerable lineages. They are preached openly at times, allowing mortals, rogue cultivators, demons, and heretics to gain access to incomplete teachings. 654 659
- Practitioners undertake bodily tribulations and heart tribulations while walking the world to comprehend the Great Dao and seek a Fruit Rank. 721
- The sect’s scriptures can stabilize a cultivator’s soul during tribulations, making them valuable as life-preserving treasures rather than mere manuals. 651
- The Nine-Tribulation Golden Lotus Method was publicly expounded by Seven Treasures Bodhisattva at Crane Mountain. 654
- The sect possesses “ten thousand volumes of true scriptures,” though access is controlled by status and lineage. 734
Fruit Positions and Dharma Bodies
Bodhi Sect cultivation centers on obtaining and developing a practitioner’s Fruit Rank or Fruit Position, a path comparable in raw strength to an immortal cultivator’s Dao Fruit. 635
- Arhats manifest Golden Bodies and employ Fruit-Rank techniques tailored to their Dharma forms. 680
- Bodhisattva Fruit Positions allow cultivators to imitate the order of Heaven and Earth, using Dao-origin to construct increasingly complete Dharma bodies. 716 721
- Senior figures may bestow divine abilities or portions of a higher Fruit Position upon disciples, though such gifts can also function as restraints. 702
- The Dragon-Subduing and Tiger-Taming Great Wisdom King position granted Shen Yi a three-headed, six-armed wrathful Dharma body and a fragment of a third-rank Bodhisattva Fruit Position. 702
Formations and Buddhist Treasures
The sect is especially dangerous in coordinated warfare. Its practitioners combine Dharma bodies, Buddhist light, formations, and sect treasures rather than relying solely on individual combat. 751
- Groups of Bodhisattvas can merge their Buddhist light and Dharma powers into a coordinated suppression formation. 751
- More than a thousand Arhats can jointly create a large-scale Buddhist-light formation capable of enveloping an entire hall. 798
- The Immaculate Buddhist Beads are an innate Buddhist treasure used to strengthen Great Freedom Bodhisattvas. 820
- The Future Buddha’s golden ring can forcibly bind and control a Demon Venerable. 750
- The sect’s scripture-transmitting palanquin was guarded by four Great Arhats and the Dragon-Subduing and Tiger-Taming Great Wisdom King. 713
History
Expansion into the Divine Dynasty
The sect’s practitioners operated throughout the Divine Dynasty by preaching, establishing shrines, and circulating cultivation methods. Its teachings were presented as open salvation, but the spread of incomplete scriptures also created large numbers of prospective followers seeking further Bodhi Sect inheritances. 654 659
The Divine Dynasty regarded this expansion as a threat to imperial authority. Court officials believed the sect’s public transmission of scripture encouraged greed and could redirect the mortal world’s Imperial Qi away from the dynasty. 674 712
In Jianyang Prefecture, disciples Zhi Qing and Zhi Ming pursued the Dragon-Tiger Grand Scripture, abducted cultivators, and forced them to atone for alleged sins. Their conflict with Shen Yi ended with Zhi Qing’s death and exposed serious corruption among ordinary sect practitioners. 649 650
Conflict with the Divine Dynasty
The confrontation escalated after Dragon-Tiger Arhat Hui Zhen was killed by Shen Yi while attempting to take an old flood dragon demon. The Divine Dynasty publicly accused Hui Zhen of colluding with demons and causing calamity across West Mountain Prefecture. 678 680
The sect responded through direct pressure and covert operations. The Thousand-Hand Bodhisattva confronted the dynasty in West Mountain Prefecture, while Bodhi Sect monks later used Golden Light Prefecture as a staging ground and attempted to manipulate Wu Shan into serving as a message of submission. 685 699 701
Shen Yi subsequently accepted the Bodhi Sect’s investiture as the Dragon-Subduing and Tiger-Taming Great Wisdom King, formally entering the sect while receiving a restraint placed within his Fruit Position by the Thousand-Hand Bodhisattva. 702
Scripture Transmission and the Great Calamity
The Bodhi Sect publicly dispatched its true scripture into the mortal world under the Great Wisdom King’s protection. The stated goal was to spread the Dharma, but the transmission also positioned the sect to gain influence during widespread demon calamities and unrest. 712 713
Shen Yi intercepted the transmission, killed eight Great Arhats, and removed the scripture from the sect’s control. The Thousand-Hand Bodhisattva pursued him, but Shen Yi later completed a Bodhisattva Fruit Rank and killed the Bodhisattva. 716 721 724
During the same period, the sect sought to recruit and direct demon forces. It manipulated demon clans, offered salvation to captured Demon Venerables, and planned to seize Orthodox God positions by intervening at Eight Extremes Valley. 710 731 750
War with the Three Immortals Sect
The Bodhi Sect infiltrated Northern Continent with disguised Bodhisattvas and clashed with the Three Immortals Sect over disciples, Dao grounds, and incense offerings. 763 791
In Eastern Continent, the sect besieged Three Immortals Sect disciples with over a thousand Arhats and several Bodhisattvas, intending to refine their enemies alive through a grand formation. Taixu True Lord’s arrival broke the formation and reversed the balance of power. 798
The resulting conflict brought the Seventy-Two Cave Golden Immortals to Eastern Sumeru for negotiations. Both sides accused the other of initiating bloodshed, and Joyful True Buddha personally intervened when the dispute threatened to spiral beyond the control of the Bodhisattvas. 803 804
The attempted reconciliation failed. Bodhi Sect forces resumed coordinated ambushes against Three Immortals Sect disciples across Eastern Continent, while their senior figures prepared Buddhist treasures and formations to eliminate Shen Yi. 818 820
Southern Sumeru Battle
By the final documented conflict, the Bodhi Sect’s Past Buddha and five True Buddhas gathered at Southern Sumeru to suppress the Ancestor Gods and confront Shen Yi. 841
Shen Yi’s forces fractured the sect’s leadership: Joyful True Buddha defected, Past Buddha was defeated and driven into the River of Time, and the remaining True Buddhas and monks were captured. 842 843
