Background / History

Hibari was born shortly after Konoha’s founding, several years before Tsunade. He descends from a branch connected to Senju Butsuma’s brothers rather than Hashirama’s direct line, but Hashirama rejects distinctions between main and branch families because the clan has so few children left. Hibari is regarded as the third generation’s eldest son and resolves to prevent the Senju Clan from declining. 1 2

Having “lived two lives,” Hibari is unusually precocious and reluctant to act childish around Hashirama. His exceptional chakra reserves, vigorous life force, and talent made him a heavily doted-on child; Tobirama chose his name and raised him almost as a son. 1 2 43

His early inability to refine water-nature chakra became a major concern for both Hashirama and Tobirama, preventing him from learning Water Release or pursuing Wood Release despite his earth affinity and unusually strong vitality. Tobirama and Yamanaka Kiyono eventually suppress the mysterious force inside him with the Vortex Seal, allowing him to swim and use Water Release. 5 42 43 44
