Background / History

Tsunade is Senju Hashirama's direct granddaughter and Uzumaki Mito's granddaughter. As one of only two prominent third-generation children remaining in the diminished Senju Clan, she is formally recognized by the Daimyo as “Princess Tsunade.” 1 10

During her childhood, she develops a close sibling-like bond with Senju Hibari, who is several years older. The two frequently cause trouble together, including breaking into Tobirama's sealed warehouse after Tsunade successfully removes its talisman seal. 1

Hashirama indulges Tsunade heavily, including introducing her to gambling. She later accompanies him to a gambling den after they empty Hibari's savings, while Mito and Hibari attempt to curb her behavior. 1 27 31

Tsunade is selected to attend Konoha's newly founded Ninja Academy as a public demonstration of the Senju Clan's support for the institution.
