Background / History

Yu Xiaogang was born into the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan as Yu Yuanzhen's youngest son, but was later expelled from the clan due to his poor cultivation talent. He became known across the soul master world as “Master” or “Grandmaster” for compiling the Ten Core Competencies of Martial Souls, though major factions recognize that much of the material resembles older records and Spirit Hall archives. 42 63 120

Before the main events, six-year-old Su Sanjia sought to become Yu Xiaogang's disciple after awakening the rare Radiant Light martial soul with only level-three innate soul power. Yu Xiaogang rejected the apprenticeship request without meeting him, an act that became the foundation of Su Sanjia's resentment. 1 26 27

Yu Xiaogang later became Tang San's teacher and arrived at Shrek Academy at Flender's invitation. His interest in Su Sanjia was immediately drawn by the latter's abnormal soul-ring configuration, particularly a thousand-year second ring and ten-thousand-year fourth ring. Convinced that Su possessed a secret technique for absorbing rings beyond normal limits, Yu Xiaogang repeatedly attempted to obtain it. 21 22 26

Su Sanjia revealed that surpassing ring limits required a body strong enough to endure them, but Yu Xiaogang rejected the explanation. Their confrontation exposed Su's earlier rejection and undermined Yu Xiaogang's claim that he believed there were “no useless martial souls, only useless soul masters.” 26 27

After Tang San began questioning Yu Xiaogang's motives and teachings, their master-disciple relationship deteriorated. Tang San ultimately severed ties with him after learning that Yu Xiaogang had helped bring Yu Yuanzhen against Su Sanjia and endangered Shrek Academy. 43 59 69

Yu Xiaogang escaped Shrek's punishment and reappeared in Spirit Hall as an honorary elder and instructor for its tournament team, supported by Bibi Dong. He used the position to pursue revenge against Su Sanjia, manipulate Yu Tianheng into confronting him, and press Spirit Hall's team into dangerous tactics during the Continental Elite Soul Master Tournament. 81 105 107 114

After his theories and schemes were publicly discredited, Yu Xiaogang attempted to flee. Su Sanjia crippled him, exposed his role in inviting Yu Yuanzhen to seize Su's soul bones, and ultimately beheaded him despite Bibi Dong's intervention. 120 121

Yu Xiaogang is intensely proud of his status as a theorist and treats his Ten Core Competencies of Martial Souls as the foundation of his identity. Criticism of his theories or cultivation immediately provokes anger, defensiveness, and humiliation. 25 26 120

His long-standing inferiority over his stalled cultivation develops into envy of talented younger soul masters, especially Su Sanjia and Tang San. He covets Su Sanjia's methods, soul bones, and rapid growth as means to overcome his own limitations and regain recognition from the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan. 21 25 57

Yu Xiaogang often frames his demands as being for the benefit of all soul masters, while privately seeking personal status and power. He is willing to manipulate allies, students, and family—including Yu Tianheng—to advance his plans. 26 57 105 107

Luo Sanpao

Yu Xiaogang's martial soul was originally an external beast soul. After absorbing the Third-Grade Purple Ganoderma, it mutated into an internal possession-type beast soul. 61

Yu Xiaogang arrives as Tang San's teacher and is installed as Shrek's instructor despite the students' skepticism. His obsession with Su Sanjia's soul-ring configuration brings his jealousy, weak cultivation, and past rejection of Su into public view. 21 23 25 27

Breakthrough and Estrangement

After receiving a Third-Grade Purple Ganoderma, Yu Xiaogang breaks through Rank 30 but suffers a humiliating martial soul mutation. Tang San's respect for him steadily declines after learning that Yu Xiaogang raised him partly to restore his standing with the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan. 43 61

Betrayal of Shrek

Yu Xiaogang covets Su Sanjia's hundred-thousand-year soul bone and schemes to use Yu Yuanzhen against him. The scheme places Shrek Academy in danger, causes Tang San to sever their bond, and forces Yu Xiaogang to flee after Liu Erlong protects him. 57 67 69 79

Spirit Hall Instructor

With Bibi Dong's support, Yu Xiaogang becomes an honorary elder and takes command of Spirit Hall Academy's team. His harsh training and fixation on defeating Su Sanjia alienate the team and draw criticism from Spirit Hall members. 80 81 114

Death

Following Spirit Hall's tournament defeat and the exposure of his theories' origins, Yu Xiaogang tries to escape the final confrontation. Su Sanjia destroys one of his legs, publicly reveals his betrayal of Liu Erlong and involvement with Yu Yuanzhen, then kills him in front of Bibi Dong. 120 121
