Background / History
Lan Yin began as a mutated Blue Silver Grass within the Blue Silver Forest. During the attack on Tang Hao and Ah Yin, she transferred her life force to Ah Yin, allowing Ah Yin to regain enough strength to act. Ah Yin trusted her as a Blue Silver Emperor subject and entrusted Tang Chuan's protection to her. 11 13
After Ah Yin's sacrifice, Lan Yin buried Ah Yin and Tang Hao in the Blue Silver Forest. By absorbing the life essence left behind, she became a true Hundred-Thousand-Year Blue Silver Emperor. Instead of rebuilding herself as a human, she assumed a humanoid form while retaining her full cultivation and the ability to conceal her soul beast aura. 18
To keep Tang Chuan connected to human society, Lan Yin brought him to a border village in the Heaven Dou Empire and placed him in the care of an elderly couple. She nevertheless remained near him, eventually becoming his constant guardian, teacher, and family. 18 19
Appearance
In humanoid form, Lan Yin is a graceful woman whose tranquil bearing is frequently contrasted with her overwhelming strength. Her appearance and clothing vary, but she is consistently depicted with an aloof, refined presence. 14 24 37
- Long aqua-blue hair; in Spirit City, her black hair is shown with strands of blue. 14 37 59
- Gentle oval face, calm eyes, and a faint habitual smile. 14
- Commonly wears pale or moon-white gowns; she later appears in a blue-gold dress woven from ice silkworm silk. 14 24 33 37
- Often uses a veil when traveling publicly, concealing part of her face. 24
Personality
Lan Yin is exceptionally patient and gentle toward Tang Chuan. She accepted his childhood request to become sworn siblings because she understood that he wanted to give her a family and spare her loneliness. When he later asked whether she was his mother, she chose to temporarily fill that role rather than immediately reveal the truth of his parents' fate. 19
Her protectiveness can become uncompromising. She immediately understood the danger of Tang Chuan's ability to inspect martial souls, cultivation, and soul skills, warning him never to disclose it unless he was completely safe—not even to longtime companions. 20
Although calm and compassionate toward allies, Lan Yin is willing to manipulate or threaten others for Tang Chuan's benefit. She considered Xiao Wu a potential resource for his growth and would even sacrifice her own soul ring and soul bone if he desired them. 25 She remains largely indifferent to Spirit Hall's wealth, status, and internal politics, preferring planting, reading, and staying beside Tang Chuan. 49
