"Mal'Ganis? A demon? So this was the master behind you blasphemers?" Arthas mulled over the unfamiliar name, fury burning in his chest.
"Exactly so, young Prince." Kel'Thuzad's voice carried a trace of mockery.
"He is the true master of the Scourge. I am merely a humble executor, spreading the great plague and paving the way for the rise of the dead.
"Your struggles are meaningless. Mortals will eventually submit to eternal darkness!"
"Archmage Kel'Thuzad, you were once a member of Dalaran's six-man Citadel. Yet you fell so low as to serve a demon. It is truly contemptible," Jaina, standing nearby, said.
Kel'Thuzad was slightly startled by her words. He had not expected this young female mage to recognize him.
To be honest, he looked rather ragged now. He wore tattered mage robes, held a broken staff, had a ram-skull mask on his head, and was not even wearing shoes.
If any former Dalaran mage saw him now, they would never connect him to Kel'Thuzad. Still, he had introduced himself, so it was no surprise that they knew who he was.
"Heh heh! I am merely walking the path toward eternity. You mortals cannot comprehend just how powerful the spells I have mastered are."
"Silence, traitor! Your blasphemy ends here! For Lordaeron! Attack!" Arthas roared. Holy Light abruptly erupted from the warhammer in his hand, Might of Menethil, its brilliant sacred radiance sweeping away the gloom around the barn.
At the prince's command, Lordaeron's elite soldiers let out battle cries and surged like a tide toward the Cult of the Damned followers and the shambling undead closing in around them.
Kel'Thuzad sneered and waved his staff. Several nearby corpses immediately rose as skeletons and zombies, while large numbers of ghouls crawled out from all around them. At the same time, more than a dozen hideous abominations, each over three meters tall, joined the battlefield.
Meanwhile, several Cult of the Damned members formed a circle and began an evil ritual, summoning even more undead into the battle.
The Lordaeron soldiers' swords hacked into the undead's rotten bodies, while their shields blocked the ghouls' claws. The battle erupted in an instant.
With a wave of Jaina's staff, Arcane Missiles accurately struck the Cult of the Damned followers attempting to cast spells, interrupting their evil ritual.
At the same time, she summoned two enormous water elementals to hold back the towering abominations.
She then cast Frostbolt and Ice Lance, freezing a small cluster of approaching ghouls in place and creating an opportunity for the warriors to divide and kill them.
Rod was much more cautious. As a mage, he naturally could not charge at the front, so he stood beside Jaina.
He opened his Hero Magic Book and directly cast Magic Arrow, targeting an abomination.
A streak of blue energy made entirely of arcane power, like a spear of divine punishment, instantly crossed the battlefield and precisely slammed into one of the abominations charging at the front!
Boom!
The struck abomination let out an earth-shaking shriek. The pure destructive force contained in Magic Arrow blasted a large charred hole through its bloated, rotting body, sending foul pus and fragments of organs spraying in every direction.
The tremendous impact brought its massive body to an abrupt halt. It staggered back several steps before collapsing. The power of Magic Arrow had directly killed an abomination.
"Beautifully done, Sir Rod!" Jaina's eyes lit up. Rod's spell power had far exceeded her expectations.
Rod smiled at that, but his hands did not stop working. He currently had a full 26 mana points, enough to cast Magic Arrow five times.
However, Rod had no intention of casting only offensive magic. There were fewer than two hundred human soldiers present, and both Shield of Protection and Stone Skin could protect them.
"Shield of Protection!" A massive green shield directly enveloped every human soldier present. Rod's spell covered all the humans, including Arthas and Jaina.
"Stone Skin!" A gigantic fishing-net-like magical rune appeared, covering every soldier present as vast amounts of earth condensed over their bodies like armor.
Rod cast two group protection spells in succession, granting everyone present beneficial magical effects.
A ghoul's attack struck a human soldier, yet it produced the sound of metal clashing against metal. It could not break through the soldier's defense at all.
The undead offensive immediately weakened, because the low-level undead could no longer harm the human soldiers. The two area-effect spells from the Heroes III world had greatly increased the human soldiers' defenses.
At the same time, perhaps it was just an illusion, but the human soldiers seemed to feel that their attacks had also improved somewhat.
Rod only had one point of attack, but that did not represent his own attack power. Rather, it was attack power granted to allies.
Any unit within the army that Rod recognized as an ally would receive a one-point attack bonus.
"This is area-effect magic! You have been a tremendous help, Sir Rod!
"Attack! Warriors of Lordaeron, destroy these vile undead!" The young paladin prince's confidence surged after receiving Rod's attack and defense boosts.
Kel'Thuzad's figure beneath the gray robes paused slightly. His ram-skull mask turned toward Rod, revealing a hint of surprise. "Interesting... magic I have never seen before. It does not resemble Dalaran's usual methods. It seems Miss Jaina has a remarkably hidden mage friend at her side."
"There's plenty more you haven't seen!" Rod snorted.
After receiving his group blessings, magic, and the one-point attack bonus, the undead killed by ordinary soldiers would also count as his experience.
Whoosh! The second Magic Arrow tore through the air, striking a giant abomination and blasting it to pieces. Then came the third Magic Arrow, killing yet another abomination.
Rod's overwhelming display greatly boosted the confidence of all the human soldiers.
But after casting five spells in a row, Rod's mana bar had already bottomed out. The most miserable thing about hero units in the Heroes III world was simply not having enough mana!
Without hesitation, Rod took out several blue mana potions Jaina had given him earlier and drank them.
After downing two blue potions, Rod instantly recovered 25 mana points, filling his mana completely once more.
He then turned into a mobile artillery platform. Five Magic Arrows directly killed five abominations, and with the other soldiers' attacks added in, the scales of victory on the battlefield began to tip toward the humans.
Such terrifyingly effective damage output, combined with his instant casting speed, left Kel'Thuzad utterly shocked.
What the hell? Where had this monster come from?
