Faced with the decidedly complicated situation before him, Sherlock was already screaming inside, but he dared not make a sound out loud.

After all, John Wick was still pinned beneath that enormous tiger's paw! It was a blessing that Sherlock's rainbow-spewing retching hadn't woken the huge beast. How could he possibly dare make another sound?

Judging by the positions John Wick and the tiger were in, if the tiger so much as got up, John Wick could probably kiss his ribs-and the organs they protected-goodbye.

Of course, Sherlock would probably have to say goodbye to John Wick, too.

Sherlock rose with painstaking slowness and care, making sure he didn't make the slightest sound and even keeping his breathing as shallow as possible.

His eyes stayed fixed on the enormous tiger as he cautiously edged backward, trying to put some distance between them.

The reason he did this instead of using alchemy to rescue everyone near the tiger was simple: his brain was still complete mush.

In that condition, never mind whether he could successfully activate alchemy-even if he did, his brain would probably turn into scrambled brains in an instant.

After all, alchemy required calculations. Even with the assistance of the Seven Deadly Sins, Sherlock still had to involve his own brain.

It was like pairing a Pentium CPU with a 5090 graphics card. That clearly wasn't going to do much good.

Sometimes, though, the very thing you dreaded really did happen. Sherlock's original plan was to put some distance between himself and the tiger, stay as far outside its reach as possible, and then figure out his next move once he was sure he wouldn't provoke it.

But before Sherlock had taken more than a few steps backward, he had the rotten luck to step on a dry twig.
