Background / History
Sherlock transmigrated into a wealthy household and spent five years studying an alchemical grimoire that arrived alongside an inexhaustible Philosopher’s Stone. Ancient One appeared on his first day in this world and repeatedly invited him to become the next Sorcerer Supreme; Sherlock consistently refused, unwilling to bind his soul to cosmic entities after death. 1 3
His attempt at forbidden Human Transmutation cost him an arm and an eye. The act also resulted in Doro, a life-form Sherlock considers his pet but treats as his child. His left eye was replaced with a prosthetic concealing the Philosopher’s Stone, while his lost arm became an alchemical mechanical limb. 1 3 4
Sherlock’s closest early connections were John Wick and Helen, neighbors who cared for him after his arrival. He later aided John’s retirement with alchemical items and cured Helen’s illness with a trace of the Philosopher’s Stone’s power. 4
Ancient One entrusted him with the damaged Holy Lance of Longinus, which he repaired and subsequently used to disguise his alchemy as magic. The Lance’s restoration brought him to S.H.I.E.L.D.’s attention and drew him into Tony Stark’s kidnapping, his parents’ murder investigation, and wider supernatural conflicts. 2 6 9
Appearance
Sherlock is a tall young man, approximately 1.9 meters in height. His most notable features are a prosthetic left eye containing the Philosopher’s Stone and a detachable mechanical left arm, which can conceal or deploy alchemical tools and armor. 3 73 72
- His ordinary-looking left arm can separate into alchemical mechanisms and tool-limbs. 3
- His prosthetic left eye conceals a blood-red Philosopher’s Stone. 3
- He can reshape his appearance through Human Transmutation, including disguising himself as “Kizaru” during the Destroyer Armor heist. 68
- His advanced armor can be stored within his mechanical arm and deployed across his body almost instantly. 73
Personality
Sherlock’s defining goal is a quiet, comfortable life spent studying alchemy, drinking coffee, and avoiding heroic responsibility. He dislikes organizations attempting to recruit or control him, particularly S.H.I.E.L.D., Hydra, and the High Table. His curiosity toward divine artifacts and unfamiliar systems of alchemy, however, repeatedly overrides his reluctance to become involved. 3 38 61 96
He is calculating, prideful, and highly competitive—especially around Tony Stark’s technology. Sherlock often relies on deception, intimidation, and overwhelming displays of power to prevent future threats rather than confronting them repeatedly. His actions against the Ten Rings earned him the “Impaler” reputation, but the resulting carnage also left him physically sickened. 19 20 27
Despite his selfish presentation and ruthless methods, Sherlock is fiercely protective of those he considers family. Threats to John, Helen, Doro, Tony, or Anna can make him abandon restraint entirely. He particularly values irreplaceable memories, recognizing that even his alchemy cannot restore photographs whose images were destroyed. 44 75 90
Abilities & Skills
Alchemy
Sherlock practices true alchemy through a grimoire and his connection to Truth. He can analyze, deconstruct, transmute, and reconstruct matter through transmutation circles, clapping, or specialized artifacts. 1 3
- Creates structures and shelter from surrounding material, including desert houses and underground spaces. 16 68
- Transforms weapons, ammunition, vehicles, and industrial machinery. 19 27
- Produces specialized items, artificial life, armor, and magical technology. 2 4 120
- Can restore damaged objects, demonstrated by reconstructing the destroyed Los Angeles Continental Hotel counter. 40
- His strongest material transmutations are constrained by calculation load and mental strain. 20 72
Analysis of All Things
Sherlock uses alchemical analysis to inspect materials, observe distant activity through connected terrain, and decipher artifact systems. 18 65
- Monitored Tony Stark and the Ten Rings through the earth before entering their base. 18
- Analyzed Mjolnir’s layered runes and Asgardian alchemical principles. 65
- Helped erase Loki’s and Odin’s control imprints from the Destroyer Armor. 72
- Cannot fully analyze systems for which he lacks foundational knowledge, such as the Destroyer Armor’s sun-like energy core. 73
Decomposition and Universal Disassembly
Sherlock developed composite alchemy combining analysis with decomposition, allowing him to break down incoming matter into its basic components or erase it entirely. 20
- Converts bullets into harmless petals. 19 20
- Disassembles shells and explosives before detonation. 20
- Stopped Iron Monger gunfire with a finger using Alchemy: Universal Disassembly. 54
- Sustained use places escalating strain on his brain; prolonged activation risks failure and severe backlash. 20
Life and Human Transmutation
Sherlock can alter living bodies and create artificial life, though such practices carry major risks and costs. 1 99
- Created Doro through an alchemical experiment involving his own body and soul. 1 49
- Restored the Adjudicator’s disfigured face as both payment and a warning to the High Table. 43
- Performs physical enhancement transmutation and can reinforce his own combat ability. 54 95
- His own forbidden transmutation resulted in the loss of an arm and an eye. 1
Artifact Engineering
Sherlock excels at repairing, reverse-engineering, and modifying magical artifacts from multiple civilizations. 2 73 111
- Repaired the Holy Lance of Longinus, allowing it to amplify and simplify his alchemy. 3 6
- Altered Mjolnir’s appearance and studied its underlying system of Asgardian magical technology. 65 67
- Stole, neutralized, and rebuilt the Destroyer Armor into a deployable inner armor. 71 72 73
- Maintained Asgard’s core and magical circuits while training Asgardian and dwarven personnel to continue the work. 111 112
Combat and Infiltration
Sherlock combines alchemy with firearms, improvised tactics, and later physical training under John Wick. 19 95
- Uses alchemy to infiltrate secured locations, bypassing Obadiah Stane’s security and safe. 36
- Fights with customized firearms, spear weapons, armor, terrain manipulation, and transmuted defenses. 19 79 82
- Improved from poor baseline fitness to completing five-kilometer runs, exchanging blows with Anna, and shooting accurately after a month of training. 95
- Uses manipulation and information asymmetry against adversaries, including the Director of the Ruska Roma. 86 87
