Tony, who had always been the center of attention and the protagonist, was experiencing the feeling of being ignored for the first time. But faced with the gleaming bathroom in front of him, Tony ultimately gave up resisting and obediently darted inside for a comfortable shower.
After showering, Tony changed into the same beachwear Sherlock had prepared for Ethan, put on a large pair of sunglasses, climbed into the bed of the Raptor, and lay down beside Ethan to wait for the vehicle to set off.
With the roar of the engine, the Raptor started up again, and everyone finally began their journey home. Tony and Ethan could not get enough of the endless yellow sand and azure sky.
Though it all looked rather monotonous to Sherlock, to these two unlucky men who had been imprisoned in a pitch-black cave, everything was so wonderful. Even the blazing sun overhead, hot enough to fry oil out of a person, seemed adorable in their eyes.
Although the vehicle bounced terribly as it traveled through the desert, especially for the two unlucky men in the back whose asses were nearly shattered, they still enjoyed every moment of it. They even shamelessly claimed that it gave them a sense of being alive.
In response, the four of them rolled their eyes so hard they nearly reached the sky.
Compared to the search for Tony, the return trip was undoubtedly much faster.
When Sherlock's Raptor drove into the military base once more, Tony in the truck bed nearly attracted the attention of every soldier in the entire base. If Rhodes had not stepped forward then, Tony might have been gawked at like a zoo animal at the gate for quite a while.
As for Rhodes, after making a joke about Tony's happy car, he had a doctor give Tony a simple checkup before preparing to stuff him onto a plane and send him back to the US.
After all, with Tony here, Rhodes really could not bear that kind of worry anymore. God knew how agonizing the past few days had been for him.
As for Ethan, Tony had originally planned to bring him back to the US as well, but Ethan refused. In Ethan's own words, this was his home. Compared with going to the US, he would rather stay here and become a doctor without borders.
Tony could only offer Ethan his heartfelt blessings and tell him to call whenever he had a problem. Ethan did not refuse, and so they parted ways right there in the base.
The only issue arose with Sherlock's group.
Sherlock's group had been invited back by S.H.I.E.L.D. Now that the mission to find Tony was over, they should have boarded the plane S.H.I.E.L.D. had arranged and returned to New York.
But just as Sherlock, John Wick, and the others were about to take the plane arranged by S.H.I.E.L.D., Tony unusually firmly demanded that Sherlock come with him, saying he would personally send Sherlock's group back to the US.
What was more, Tony offered terms that no one could refuse.
To Sherlock, Tony promised to modify his Raptor. While ensuring comfort, Tony swore he could turn it into something even more badass than a Baja racer.
To John Wick and his wife, Tony promised them a trip they would never forget, with all expenses paid by Tony himself. The two of them could have another romantic honeymoon in Los Angeles.
As for the remaining Doro, Tony simply offered a gourmet feast and a whole family portrait of oranges. This little foodie immediately drooled a stream at Tony's offer and naturally had no intention of refusing.
And so, tempted by Tony's capital-based superpower known as money, nearly everyone in Sherlock's group defected and decisively chose to board Tony's plane.
Even after Tony's plane had taken off, Hawkeye, who was still waiting for Sherlock's group in the cabin, was utterly confused. Why had Sherlock's group not boarded yet? Were they really not in a hurry to go back?
While Hawkeye waited in the cabin for Sherlock's group, still thinking about the task Black Egg had given him to win Sherlock over, Sherlock, on the other hand, was already aboard the plane in the sky, curiously looking around and touching everything like a country bumpkin.
But Sherlock could not really be blamed for acting that way. After all, this was the first time he had ever seen such a sight across both his lives!
Sherlock had only seen private jets in novels and movies in his previous life, so naturally, he was curious beyond measure.
Yet after Sherlock finished touring Tony's private jet with Doro in his arms, only one thought remained in his mind: Fuck rich people!
Sherlock had thought he was rich enough after achieving financial freedom, but he never expected Tony to be the textbook example of an obscenely wealthy bastard!
Who would have thought there was actually a bedroom inside the damn plane?
Most importantly, judging from the signs of use, that bastard Tony seemed to have possibly, probably, maybe actually joined the mile-high club!
As a result, after touring the plane, whenever Sherlock looked at Tony sitting across from him, there was nothing in his gaze except intense contempt—and even more contempt.
The words "obscenely rich bastard" were practically stamped onto Sherlock's face. He did not need to say anything; anyone with eyes could understand exactly what Sherlock meant.
Compared to Sherlock's behavior, John Wick and his wife were undoubtedly far more normal. Or, to put it bluntly, the two had already become immersed beyond rescue in their own little world thanks to the high-end liquor Tony had provided.
If Sherlock and Doro had not been there, and if Tony, the owner of the plane, had not been in the cabin, the two of them might already have run off to the bedroom at the back of the plane.
Tony naturally understood Sherlock's look. After hesitating for a long time, he finally spoke to Sherlock.
"Sherlock Flamel, first, could you stop looking at me like that? Second, I want to know what relationship Annie Flamel and Nick Flamel have with you."
Hearing Tony's words, Sherlock did not stop looking at him like he was some obscenely rich bastard. He merely added a trace of confusion to his contemptuous expression.
"My parents. Why?"
Sherlock chose to skip Tony's first question and simply answered the second.
Upon hearing Sherlock's response, John Wick and his wife, who had been absorbed in their own world, both perked up their ears. After all, this was the first time Sherlock had spoken about his family.
As for Tony, after receiving Sherlock's answer, the look in his eyes as he stared at Sherlock became increasingly complicated. He took a deep breath before continuing his question.
"I don't know if you remember, but your parents once worked for Stark Industries?"
"Of course!"
Sherlock did not avoid the question. He answered Tony openly, because his parents were already dead. It was not as if Tony could make anything of that, right?
But reality promptly slapped Sherlock in the face. After hearing his casual reply, Tony's expression grew increasingly stiff. He opened his mouth several times before finally taking another deep breath and continuing.
"Back then, your parents worked at Stark Industries and were very close to me. So, whether you believe it or not, when you were born, I became your godfather at your parents' invitation.
"After your parents died in that plane crash, your guardianship had actually always been in my hands..."
"What??" *3
Before Tony could finish, the three people present cried out in shock. Sherlock in particular began looking at Tony very differently after hearing his words.
