Background

Tsunade returns to Konoha with Jiraiya after Sarutobi Hiruzen and the other elders are incapacitated. She personally examines Hiruzen, concluding that his brain damage, blood loss, and organ complications are irreversible; she likewise finds Utatane Koharu and Mitokado Homura permanently bedridden. 80

As Hiruzen's former student and the Senju Clan's rightful head, Tsunade agrees to stand for the position of Fifth Hokage despite her reluctance to inherit Konoha's political crisis. Personality

Tsunade is direct, proud, and fiercely protective of Konoha. Although she initially calls the Hokage position a “troublesome mess,” she accepts the responsibility because she refuses to watch Junichi reshape the village through violence and intimidation. 80

She distrusts Junichi from their first meeting and regards him as a dangerous opponent precisely because of his strength, strategic thinking, and self-assurance. Tsunade returns to find Konoha's old leadership ruined and declares herself a candidate for Fifth Hokage. At the all-jōnin assembly, she receives unanimous support from non-Uchiha voters, but Junichi presents the Feudal Lord's decree appointing himself instead, voiding the election result. 80 83

She openly challenges the legitimacy of Junichi's appointment, suspecting he manipulated the Feudal Lord. Junichi warns that a failed challenge would make her and Jiraiya criminals and rebels, prompting them to leave Konoha to investigate. 84 85

Opposition to Junichi

Capture by the Uchiha
