Background / History

The current Lin Suri is a Truth-Seeking cultivator who entered the Qi-Less Grotto-Heaven through rebirth and possessed the original Lin Suri's body. Chen Lingxi concludes that the original body's soul was scattered in the process. Not long after taking the body, Lin Suri used its birthday banquet as cover to distribute incense burners throughout the Baosu Marquis Residence and establish a spiritual-qi-gathering formation. By the time of his negotiations with Chen Lingxi on Ancestral Mountain, a little over two years had passed since his rebirth. 94 128

Within the residence, he became its effective administrator while the Baosu Marquis remained in seclusion. He also held a Court Commandant's Aide post in Yuan River Prefecture. His outward routine centered on breathing exercises, cultivation, estate management, and quietly gathering capable subordinates for the conflict over Ancestral Mountain. 2 3 8

Lin Suri pursued cultivation resources at considerable personal cost. He traded twenty years of lifespan for Spirit Amber, used the Candle of Time in dealings with the Cauldron Venerable, refined Purple True Treasure Aura, and exchanged the Pool-Soul Institute's Six-Qi True Method for materials needed for his Mountain-Smelting Formation. 10 33 63 68 69

His larger mission concerns the Immortal Husk, the Myriad Realms Projection Cauldron Vessel, and opportunities for the Dao-Below Academy's Pool-Soul Institute. During the struggle for Ancestral Mountain Mother Qi, he passed the Myriad Mechanisms' Wondrous Vehicle Formation first, seized the Mother Qi, and survived repeated attacks by rival Truth-Seekers. 115 119

In the Great Xuanzhuo Realm, Lin Suri is a disciple of Jing Shijue, a Golden Grotto True Person who possesses the Calamity-Seeing Pool Cauldron Vessel. His own talent is described in terms of Golden Grotto potential or physique. Although his late entry into the Rebirth Pool left him behind other Truth-Seekers, his subsequent cultivation rapidly closed that gap. 56 94 130 153

After returning from Weiji Grotto-Heaven and awakening his memories, Lin Suri reforged his Dao Foundation. He later obtained the Sun-Slaying Fortuitous Opportunity, attracting the covetous attention of the Yutai Bai Family and the Calamity Sea. He remained surrounded in a secret realm for years rather than surrendering the opportunity, maintaining that he possessed a means of protecting himself. 313 314 316

Appearance

Lin Suri is exceptionally fair, with a cool, jade-like complexion rather than cosmetic pallor. His sharply defined brows, subtly upturned eyes, and abyss-dark pupils give him a remote, difficult-to-read presence. 2

  • Usually wears dark or black brocade robes, a jade belt, and an immaculate hair crown. 115 153
  • His composed bearing is frequently compared to a mountain or still deep water. 68 117
  • After refining Spirit Amber, the gray at his temples and fine lines around his eyes disappeared. 68
  • In battle, his eyes can ignite with golden light and his body can be surrounded by sword qi or a divine-general phantom. 115 117
  • In the Great Xuanzhuo Realm's secret realm, wears a dark Daoist robe embroidered with the cloud patterns of the Pool-Soul Institute lineage. During cultivation, a pale-golden sun roughly one foot across hangs above his head, while mysterious spiritual radiance seals his presence within his body. 313

Personality

Lin Suri is notably mature and restrained for the body he inhabits. He remains composed under scrutiny, negotiations, and lethal pressure; even when surrounded by stronger cultivators, he generally responds with calculation rather than panic. 2 63 159

He is cautious with both information and trust. He does not accept Chen Lingxi's declarations at face value, but adjusts his stance once Chen demonstrates knowledge, power, and sincere willingness to cooperate. 118 128

Despite his pursuit of opportunities for the Pool-Soul Institute, Lin Suri values loyalty and remembers assistance given to him. He formally promises Chen Lingxi that he will persuade the Dao-Below Academy to aid him once, and later provides a spirit-message token for future requests. 181 202

His gratitude develops into determined practical assistance. He repeatedly asks Daoist Shurong about securing a Grand Divine Ability for Chen Lingxi, considers which art best suits Chen's cultivation, and resolves to seek help even after learning that Chen is a native of the doomed grotto-heaven rather than a visiting Truth-Seeker. His normally indifferent expression also becomes noticeably warmer around Chen. 193 196 202

His willingness to repay kindness extends to offering Chen the Sun-Slaying Fortuitous Opportunity and proposing to hold off the secret realm's cultivators while Chen escapes with it. At the same time, he rejects the idea that he is recklessly throwing away his life: he explains that he would already have surrendered the opportunity if he had no means of protecting himself. 316

Abilities & Skills

Six-Qi True Method

Lin Suri cultivates the Pool-Soul Institute's Six-Qi True Method, which allows him to gather and refine spiritual qi and exceptional Treasure Qi. 69 114

  • Refined a strand of Treasure Qi from a broken sword into his Six Qi, producing a sharp aura strong enough to split riverwater and pulverize pebbles, as observed within Chen Lingxi's Total Perception manifestation. 114
  • Uses the method to support prolonged cultivation, artifact activation, flight, and sword combat. 56 115
  • His cultivation is strengthened by rare qi resources, including Spirit Amber and Treasure Qi. 10 114
  • Refined Purple True Treasure Aura into his Six Qi. In the actual Ancestral Mountain negotiations, he possessed two extraordinary streams of Treasure Qi and recognized that Chen Lingxi's three streams gave Chen a deeper foundation in the method. 127 128
  • His earliest observed breathing exercise combines a bow-like posture with a patterned cycle of inhalations, exhalations, and pauses that draws faint qi into his limbs and bones. 2

Divine Consciousness and Perception

Upon reaching Qi Circulation Seventh Floor, Lin Suri awakened divine consciousness. 97

  • Can perceive details such as individual leaves, stone patterns, and drifting dust across a broad area. 97
  • Can see through Chen Lingxi's ghost-face mask, though he could not determine Chen's cultivation level. 64
  • Uses spiritual searches and eye-based techniques to investigate Ancestral Mountain and observe distant targets. 31 69 89
  • Burned a tiny wooden eye embedded in his pupil to extend his vision beyond Yuan River Prefecture to Inlaid Gold Mountain. 31
  • Uses the Golden Light Art to locate distant targets, including Consort Chun's carriage, and the Qi Observation method to examine treasures, talismans, and distant combat. 89 114 128 318
  • Can project divine consciousness into a river and search its depths and riverbed for concealed objects or auras. 97

Swordsmanship and Martial Combat

Lin Suri is a highly capable combatant whose refined treasures and sword intent allow him to contend above his nominal realm. 117 127

  • Employs the Two-Foot Jade Sword with three-colored sword aura and fierce sword momentum. 127
  • Can manifest six streams of sword qi around himself. 159
  • Previously drew a bow without an arrow, condensing his golden blood and qi into a projectile fired into the clouds. 8
  • At Qi Circulation Seventh Floor, he held his own against the eighth-floor Xi Yuan, though Xi Yuan's Longevity Bridge could drain his spiritual qi and suppress his treasures. 117 118
  • During his actual alliance with Chen Lingxi on Ancestral Mountain, used his Treasure Qi to break the suppression of Xi Yuan's divine might and ultimately killed the two Great Zhou cultivators and the white-haired woman who had helped surround him. 127

Formations and Refinement

Lin Suri is skilled in using formations, incense burners, talisman seals, and spiritual artifacts. 32 33 128

  • Secretly used incense burners distributed during his birthday banquet to form a residence-wide spiritual-qi-gathering formation. 128
  • Refined Purple True Treasure Aura through an incense burner and talisman seals. 33
  • Sought Heaven-Heavy Wood and other materials for a Mountain-Smelting Formation. 68 69
  • Helped stabilize a ferrying grand formation with tenth-floor spiritual qi. 214

Movement and Defensive Techniques

Lin Suri can move through the air and travel at extreme speed using spiritual qi. 31 109

  • Hovered unsupported several zhang above the ground. 31 56
  • Escaped Ancestral Mountain as a pale-golden streak of light. 116
  • While meditating underwater, kept riverwater from entering a three-foot radius around himself. 114
  • At Dao Foundation Early Stage, is surrounded during cultivation by mysterious spiritual radiance that locks his Dao Origin, qi signature, and vital essence deep within his body. 313 316
  • Claims to possess an undisclosed means of protecting himself despite the secret realm's prolonged encirclement and its stronger cultivators. The nature of this reliance is not explained when he discusses escape with Chen Lingxi. 316 317

Martial Aunt's Empowerment

Daoist Shurong, Lin Suri's red-robed martial aunt, can appear as a phantom behind him and empower him in combat. 159 187

  • The empowerment raised his combat strength to a level Chen Lingxi estimated as comparable to Qi Circulation Eleventh Floor. 160
  • Its power is finite; after prolonged combat with the Purple-Robed Marquis, more than half of the avatar's strength had been spent. 163
  • While empowered, condensed a spiritual-qi barrier described as capable of withstanding an ordinary twelfth-floor cultivator's full-force strike, although the Purple-Robed Marquis shattered it with a punch. 162

Cultivation Knowledge

Lin Suri possesses extensive knowledge of the Great Xuanzhuo Realm's cultivation system and serves as an important source of instruction for Chen Lingxi. He explains the conversion of spiritual qi into Dao Origin, the forging of the Qi Sea into a Dao Platform, and the cultivation of Grand Divine Abilities into Profound Roots. 180 181

  • Explains the thirty-six Dao Paths and how Grand Divine Abilities embody portions of the mysteries of the Great Dao. 180 181
  • Describes Sundial Reversal, the Heavenly Decline Method, and distinctions between Grand Divine Abilities and Cauldron Vessels. 180 181
  • Selects Wielding Profound Thunder as a suitable prospective art for Chen Lingxi because of its compatibility with the Thunder-Hiding Sword Canon. 196

Sun-Slaying Fortuitous Opportunity

After his return to the Great Xuanzhuo Realm, Lin Suri cultivates with the Sun-Slaying Fortuitous Opportunity. Its manifestation resembles a small pale-golden sun whose gentle radiance enters through his crown and circulates throughout his body. 313 314

  • The radiance remakes his skin, flesh, tendons, fascia, bones, and internal organs. 313
  • The opportunity can transform a cultivator's Root Bone and broaden their Dao Path; Chen Lingxi considers it more precious than the Suspended-Qi Fruit Projection. 316
  • Its visible bodily transformation does not establish that Lin Suri has completed an innate Treasure Body by the time he discusses the opportunity with Chen Lingxi. 313 316

Story Role / Major Arcs

Baosu Marquis Residence

Lin Suri manages the Baosu Marquis Residence while conducting hidden cultivation and collecting information through Wang Chu. He becomes the subject of Chen Lingxi's Sight-Roaming, unknowingly providing Chen with his first exposure to breathing cultivation and the wider path of immortal cultivation. 2 3

The original Lin Suri had a reputation for cruelty toward servants, including Wang Chu. Chen Lingxi notices that such rumors have become rare and observes no comparable cruelty during his surveillance of the current Lin Suri. 8

When Lin Longyue later needs to flee the Eastern King's retaliation, Chen directs her to Lin Suri for a cultivation method. Lin Suri transmits the method into her mind and sends her away, after which she leaves both the residence and Yuan River Prefecture. 135

Spirit Amber and Cauldron Artifact Schemes

He sacrifices lifespan for Spirit Amber, refines treasure aura, and corresponds with Wu Mohe about obtaining Consort Chun's Cauldron Artifact Fragment. His activities reveal his connection to the Pool-Soul Institute's search for the complete Cauldron Vessel. 10 33 51 56

Ancestral Mountain Mother Qi

Lin Suri secures the Ancestral Mountain Mother Qi ahead of the other Truth-Seekers, becoming the chief target of Xi Yuan, Consort Chun, Lu Baizhong, and numerous cultivators. Chen Lingxi intervenes during his battle with Xi Yuan, beginning their direct cooperation. 115 117 119

In the actual confrontation, Chen Lingxi joins him against Xi Yuan and four seventh-floor cultivators. Their combined attacks force Xi Yuan to flee, while Lin Suri kills the surviving seventh-floor opponents and Chen captures Xi Yuan alive. Lin Suri is left both grateful for the help and puzzled by Chen's command of the Pool-Soul Institute's Six-Qi True Method. 127

Their subsequent negotiation ends with Lin Suri handing over the Mother Qi in exchange for the Immortal Husk opportunity under a Jade Law covenant. Despite his reluctance to surrender the treasure, he accepts the agreement and guards Chen while Chen refines it and advances to Qi Circulation Eighth Floor. 128 129 130

Alliance with Chen Lingxi

After Chen Lingxi reveals knowledge of the Immortal Husk and Pool-Soul Institute's secret plans, Lin Suri agrees to negotiate rather than immediately fight. The two cooperate repeatedly against rival cultivators and recognize each other's resources and restraint. 118 128 161

Their trust deepens when Chen warns him that the Immortal Husk operation and Emperor Daye's rise may lead to disaster. Lin Suri offers to sign another Jade Law Document to demonstrate his sincerity and is visibly moved by Chen's declaration that he does not wish to conceal dangers from a close friend. 193 194

After Chen reveals his native origins, Lin Suri resolves to consult Daoist Shurong about saving him from the Xi Family's World-Refining Furnace. Chen later recognizes that Lin Suri's messages and efforts to discuss the matter with his sect helped pave the way for the assistance through which Liu Changle ultimately ferried him out of the grotto-heaven. 196 312

Slaying-Force Cauldron Contest

As an eighth-floor cultivator, Lin Suri is targeted by groups seeking his cultivation resources and position in the cauldron contest. Chen Lingxi intervenes on several occasions, while Lin Suri relies on his jade sword, sword qi, and Shurong's empowerment to survive. 159 162 163

The Purple-Robed Marquis proves strong enough to overwhelm even his empowered defenses. With the avatar's power more than half depleted, Lin Suri accepts Chen's instruction to withdraw, promising to repay the rescue; Chen also intervenes against a powerful palm strike that threatens his escape. 162 163

Dao-Below Academy Operations

Lin Suri later cultivates on a snowy peak, advises Chen Lingxi on the Dao Foundation Realm, and works with Daoist Shurong and projected Dao-Below Academy disciples on the Heaven-Fishing Great Formation to retrieve the Immortal Husk. 180 186 187

He also helps arrange a Grand Divine Ability for Chen Lingxi. Daoist Shurong initially proposes exchanging Chu Spirit Mountain for the Hidden Profundity Institute's Wielding Profound Thunder, while later efforts involve seeking an art from the Thunder Pool. Lin Suri follows up on the matter roughly every ten days. 196 202

In Nanche Prefectural City, he maintains the ferrying grand formation under attack by Calamity Sea cultivators, pouring his tenth-floor spiritual qi into it despite severe strain. Chen kills Daoist Fire Tuo and preserves the Guiding Passage Formation. Lin Suri subsequently receives Chen at an estate in the Ning Kingdom and gives him the Thunder-Prison Heaven Grand Divine Ability Jade Tablet and Thunder-Prison Spirit Branch, treating the gifts as repayment for Chen's repeated help. 210 214 222

Return to the Great Xuanzhuo Realm

After returning from Weiji Grotto-Heaven, Lin Suri awakens his memories with his Dao Foundation already established. He later explains that he has spent fourteen or fifteen years reforging his foundation, but still only barely qualifies as a Dao Foundation Early Stage cultivator and has not grown his Profound Root into a tree. 316

Chen Lingxi eventually discovers a task in the Great Luo Heaven-Observing Mirror offering ten thousand strands of Great Luo Dark Qi for killing Lin Suri. Alarmed by the unusually high reward, Chen accepts the task to investigate, although accepting it provides no useful information about either Lin Suri's location or the party responsible. 312 313

Sun-Slaying Fortuitous Opportunity and Secret-Realm Siege

Chen Lingxi locates Lin Suri cultivating within a secret realm, where a small golden sun is transforming his body. More than twenty cultivators maintain an encirclement around the area, and the secret realm prevents Lin Suri from sending messages outside. Bai Qieyun repeatedly demands that he surrender the Sun-Slaying Fortuitous Opportunity and warns that Bai Hong will emerge from seclusion to take it within three to six months. Lin Suri refuses. 313 314

Chen enters through a hidden passage, observes the realm's inhabitants, and inscribes Bai Hong's presence into the Enemy-Slaying Spirit Jade. When the two friends reunite, Lin Suri offers Chen the opportunity as repayment for saving his life and proposes to hold off the other cultivators while Chen quietly departs. Chen is deeply moved, but questions how Lin Suri's early-stage cultivation could withstand so many stronger opponents. Lin Suri answers that his prolonged refusal to surrender rests on an undisclosed safeguard rather than a willingness to die for the treasure. 314 316

Lin Suri explains that the secret realm contains five Dao Foundation Middle Stage cultivators, each cultivating two Grand Divine Abilities and two Profound Roots, as well as a Yutai Bai Family cultivator at the late stage. Although the realm normally admits only cultivators below the late stage, the latter entered at the middle stage and subsequently broke through inside. These forces make Lin Suri doubtful that he and Chen can simply fight their way out. 317

When Chen takes action, Lin Suri watches the western sky through Qi Observation and sees him defeat Bai Qieyun with a single sword strike. He marvels at Chen's ability to condense immense killing power into a restrained Sword-Ray and recognizes how far his friend has advanced since their battles in Weiji Grotto-Heaven. 318
