Background
Chen Lingxi was born into the Chen Family of Linchuan. His father served as a Principal Fifth Rank official in the Ministry of Rites, and the family lived peacefully until Rong Chun’s Mirror Listening words implicated both the Chen and his mother’s family. His parents were executed, while Chen Lingxi was sent to the Criminal Law Bureau as an official slave. He spent two years in the Inverted Room of the Baosu Marquis Residence struggling to survive. 146
While serving in the Baosu Marquis Residence’s western courtyard, Chen Lingxi gained access to the Divine Chamber and awakened Sight-Roaming. He secretly used an incense burner handled by Lin Suri to observe Lin’s cultivation, then copied the Breath-Absorption Method from what he saw. 2 3 20
Jiang Yuan later examined Chen Lingxi’s bones and found that, despite signs of hunger and strain, his spine, limbs, blood-qi channels, and inner vitality possessed extraordinary resilience. Jiang Yuan took him on to cultivate Mountain-Crushing Force, while Lin Longyue transferred his slave registration to the Baosu Marquis Residence and supplied him with food, silver, medicinal baths, and martial resources. 13
Chen Lingxi outwardly pledged his life to Lin Longyue, but privately recognized that becoming useful to the marquis residence would likely make freedom even harder to obtain. 13
Appearance
Chen Lingxi is initially described as thin and somewhat pale, though his complexion gains a warm jade-like luster after cultivation. His refined features retain a persistent melancholy between the brows. 13
- Naturally straight-backed, with relaxed shoulders and long, subtle breathing even while still an official slave. 13
- Later carries himself with a deep, restrained presence likened to a sheathed famous sword. 128
- Often conceals his identity behind a blue, fanged ghost-face mask and wears a saber at his waist. 64
- Golden lightning occasionally flickers beneath his eyelashes after his study of the Thunder-Hiding Sword Canon. 137
Personality
Chen Lingxi is patient, observant, and intensely self-directed. As an official slave, he learns to maintain respectful manners while hiding his real thoughts, cultivation, and ambitions from those with power over him. 13 28
He treats cultivation as his path out of confinement. He continuously analyzes the mechanisms, costs, and limits of his abilities rather than relying on them blindly, including experimenting with Dragon-Drawing Powder despite its poison and investigating the formations hidden in his possessions. 20 26 58
He can be ruthless toward enemies and obstacles, killing Wang Kong after extracting information about Dragon-Drawing Powder and later slaughtering hostile cultivators and military forces when threatened. 25 164 166 However, he also protects those with whom he forms genuine bonds, saving Lin Suri from three Eighth Floor cultivators and allowing Lin Longyue time to escape after confronting Ying Ju’s heir. 160 136
Abilities & Skills
Divine Chamber
Chen Lingxi possesses a Divine Chamber containing divine abilities and opportunities tied to his cultivation. Its abilities become available or replenish as his strength, spirit, and accumulated Essence Replenishment increase. 8 20 257
- The chamber allows access to cultivation methods, treasures, and simulated experiences. 16 76 120
- His Thorough Awakening Essence Replenishment rises in response to extraordinary people, artifacts, and spiritual phenomena. 23 59 85
- He eventually obtains the Immortal Husk from the Total Perception Divine Chamber. 251
Sight-Roaming / Wandering Sight
Sight-Roaming lets Chen Lingxi perceive the world through another person’s eyes after binding them through an item they handled. He first uses it to observe Lin Suri and acquire the foundation of his cultivation. 2 3
- Early use caused severe spiritual strain: his first attempt lasted only a quarter-hour and required more than a day of recovery. Daily practice extends this to half an hour. 8
- Its effective range is limited; he cannot observe Lin Suri when Lin is outside the Divine Chamber’s range. 6
- For targets below Qi Circulation Sixth Floor, binding requires eight ordinary characters and an item handled by the target. Seventh through Ninth Floor targets additionally require pure spiritual qi and a drop of blood. 137
- Chen continues using it to monitor Lin Suri and later attempts, unsuccessfully, to Sight-Roam Emperor Daye through Crown Prince Ying Chi’s head. 149 142
Thorough Awakening / Total Perception
Thorough Awakening allows Chen Lingxi to enter a simulated world within the Divine Chamber and inspect events over the following ten days. 16
- He uses projected time to comprehend cultivation methods and plan responses to future dangers. 16
- Its replenishment is measured through an Essence Replenishment percentage. 20
- The ability helps him predict major confrontations, including the assassination of Crown Prince Ying Chi. 149
Six-Qi True Method and Qi Observation
Chen Lingxi obtains the Six-Qi True Formula and Clear-Mystery Pivot-Qi Formation from the Divine Chamber. 76
- The Six-Qi True Method supports continuous breath absorption and becomes capable of operating without deliberate breathing after he reaches the Tenth Floor. 188
- Qi Observation lets him see different forms of qi and discern hidden spiritual mechanisms, formations, and abnormalities within others. 76 137
- He uses Qi Observation to discover Lin Longyue’s hidden Treasure Qi and the spiritual mechanism remaking Xi Lan’s body. 81 137

- Thunder-Hiding Sword Canon — A sword canon Chen Lingxi comprehends to an attainment surpassing Lu Baizhong’s. 137
- Twelve Heavenly Drum Peals — Sword-light technique powerful enough to kill Profound Entry cultivators, though it can heavily drain his qi sea. 151
True Edict of Audience with the Dao

- He summons the Heaven-Inviting Great Sage’s phantom to defeat the Mysteries-realm Eastern King with two punches. 183
Thunder-Prison Heaven Grand Divine Ability
Lin Suri provides Chen Lingxi with the Thunder-Prison Heaven Grand Divine Ability Jade Tablet and Thunder-Prison Spirit Branch. 222
- Its cultivation produces a halo of pale-golden lightning and a tyrannical thunder Dao aura. 223
- Chen Lingxi uses the ability to overwhelm Xi Ming’s Heaven-Connecting Space-Refining Formation. 223
- His Thunder-Prison Heaven Dao Origin becomes substantially deeper by the time of his Profound Root Transformation. 260
Enemy-Slaying Spirit Jade
The Enemy-Slaying Spirit Jade is a fragment of the Slaying-Force Cauldron Vessel. 165 166
- It locks onto designated targets and increases the power of Chen Lingxi’s divine abilities against them. 166

- Immortal Husk — Obtained from the Total Perception Divine Chamber and refined to advance his cultivation. 251 257
