Great Yin was founded six hundred years before the opening of the story. Under Emperor Jiaguang, it contended for supremacy in the east and entered a period described as peaceful and prosperous. 1

Its expansion has remained incomplete around the Ten-Thousand Mang Mountains. The dynasty has continually sought to bring the range under its rule, both for its ancient relics and to prevent the Demon Race from using it as a bridgehead into Great Yin territory. 7 47

Following the Wicked Dragon Omen at the Dragon Gate Examination, demonic disturbances intensified across the realm. By the later stages of the story, Great Yin was fighting to hold the Southern Vast Sea and Southern Frontier while its leaders acknowledged that a single victory could not reverse the dynasty's broader decline. 96 138 149 158

Imperial Court

Emperor Jiaguang personally convenes court assemblies every few days. The Grand Secretariat is the highest rank available within Great Yin's civil-official system. 51

The imperial court oversees major cultivation institutions, maintains border forces, and rewards exceptional service. After the Southern Vast Sea campaign, it granted Xu Yan the title Marquis of Sea Suppression. 148

• Imperial Brocade Guard — Imperial investigative force headquartered through the Northern Pacification Office; its members handle major cases and operate under imperial authority. 12 80

Southern Vast Sea Defense

When a demon tide threatened the Southern Vast Sea, the imperial court dispatched elite troops to reinforce the defensive line. The fall of the region would have exposed Great Yin's border defenses and allowed demons to enter the heartland. 138

The defenders ultimately forced the Demon Race to retreat after the confrontation involving Xi, Lan, and the Everlasting Immortal Lord. The victory elevated Xu Yan's reputation across the dynasty but did not end the larger war. 147 148 149

Southern Frontier Crisis

The Yan-Cloud Great Wall temporarily holds back the Southern Frontier Demon Race, but the strength of the opposing forces and the condition of Prince of Yan's defenses suggest that the frontier remains precarious. 158
