Background / History
The World Honored One was Buddha Land's Hao Ri and one of the inheritors of the six divine bloodlines. He participated in the Five Pillars' discussions surrounding the Purple Extremity World-Purifying Sage Lord's chosen-one selection, including the plan to rebuild and raise the Abyss Pillar. 490
He was feared even among Abyssless's powerful figures for treating morality, honor, rank, and strength as irrelevant obstacles to his aims. Great Heaven regarded him cautiously, noting that he could personally intervene even in disputes involving professionals far below Hao Ri. 425
At some point, he deliberately allowed Nine Eyes to corrupt him and severed the resulting Body of Greed, Hatred, and Delusion from himself. He strengthened this body through the Nether Domain, sealed it beneath Spirit Mountain, and attempted to convert it completely; successful reabsorption would have granted him the might of a common ruler. 662 667
Personality
The World Honored One was calculating, ruthless, and intensely acquisitive. He repeatedly pursued powers that could elevate him beyond Hao Ri, including the Stupa Pagoda, the Black and White Flowing Light, Su Chen's ability to command the Spirit of the Vast Sun, and the reabsorption of his severed body. 562 591 664
He could present a calm and kind-faced exterior, but his composure broke into open rage when his schemes failed or his possessions were taken. His anger became especially apparent after Su Chen released the Body of Greed, Hatred, and Delusion and removed Buddha Land's Buddha Sariras and Spirits of Radiant Moon. 565 662
Abilities & Skills
Hao Ri Power
As a Hao Ri, the World Honored One possessed overwhelming Buddhist power and could contend with the other Pillar Lords.
- Created a vast Buddha Kingdom filled with descending Buddha phantoms. 691
- Summoned a six-armed, four-faced Buddhist spirit whose palm could cover a region of stars. 663
- His full-strength techniques combined suppression, immobilization, and killing power on a stellar scale. 664
- Was considered a powerful Hao Ri, though Su Chen ultimately surpassed and killed him after advancing. 664 693
Faith Power and Faith Golden Body
Buddha Land's Faith Spirits were the foundation of many of his methods.
- Condensed Faith Power into a World Honored One Golden Body; the more Faith Power it consumed, the closer it came to his own strength. 629
- Imprinted Faith Spirits with his personal mark, allowing him to control the Golden Body. Su Chen erased this imprint and absorbed the Faith Spirits for himself. 629 630
- Used the World-Crossing Dharma Wheel to travel across the starry expanse so long as sufficient Faith Spirits were available. 629
- Directed Huijing's operation against Meteorfall Mountain, including the attempted Grand Nirvana Sacrifice to strengthen his Golden Body. 629
Buddhist Techniques
- World-Fixing Bell — A colossal bell whose waves immobilized low-level professionals, high-level professionals, Moon Radiances, and even briefly impeded the Spirit of the Vast Sun. 664
- Thirty-Six Vajras — Prayer beads transformed into thirty-six dark-gold Vajras wielding karmic fire; Su Chen and the armored Spirit of the Vast Sun destroyed them. 664
- Buddha-Refining Incantation — A killing technique blocked by Su Chen's Emperor of Flesh and Blood imprint. 664
- World-Suppressing Mountain — An accumulated Hao Ri technique used against Su Chen after his advancement; Su Chen shattered it with one punch. 691
- Nine-Ring World-Crossing Staff — A Hao Ri weapon used to block Su Chen's attack. 691
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- World-Crossing Dharma Wheel — Faith-powered traversal artifact capable of carrying the World Honored One across the starry expanse. 629
- World-Fixing Bell — Suppression and immobilization treasure. 664
- Prayer Beads — Used to manifest the thirty-six Vajras. 664
- Nine-Ring World-Crossing Staff — Hao Ri-grade staff used in battle against Su Chen. 691
Relationships
- Su Chen — Primary enemy. The World Honored One sought Su Chen's secrets and attempted to suppress or capture him, but Su Chen repeatedly thwarted his plans before killing him. 664 690 693
- Amitabha / Body of Greed, Hatred, and Delusion — His severed counterpart, created through Nine Eyes' corruption and intended for eventual reabsorption. Amitabha escaped, opposed him, and later replaced him as World Honored One. 662 694
- Old Gou — Longstanding enemy from before the World Honored One's Hao Ri advancement. They later formed a temporary alliance to target Su Chen and the Bronze Church. 675 668 691
- Dao Lord — Fellow Pillar Lord and frequent political opponent. The Dao Lord openly despised him and later condemned his collusion with Old Gou. 562 691
- Great Heaven — Fellow Pillar Lord who remained wary of his schemes and joined the condemnation of his Final Ruins alliance. 425 691
- Mech Sovereign — Fellow Pillar Lord who distrusted his conduct and questioned his actions in the Abyss Realm and against Clearwind Commerce. 581 687
- Huijing — Buddha Land subordinate who acted under his interests during the assault on Meteorfall Mountain. 629
- Wuzhi — Buddha Land subordinate sacrificed by Huijing in the attempted Grand Nirvana Sacrifice for the World Honored One's Golden Body. 629
- Spirit of the Vast Sun — The World Honored One used methods that caused the rebuilt Abyss Pillar to restrain it near the pillar. 628 696
Story Role / Major Arcs
Abyssless Reconstruction
After the previous chosen one's death, the World Honored One joined the other Pillars in organizing a new chosen-one selection and discussing the reconstruction of Abyssless. He also sought influence over the Stupa Pagoda after it merged with the Abyss Pillar, believing its Buddha Land compatibility could yield immense benefits. 490 562
Search for the Black and White Flowing Light
Jue Tianshuo revealed that the black-and-white streams could create Vast Sun professions. The World Honored One became determined to obtain them, hoping they could create more Hao Ris and perhaps erase the mark upon his body. 591
The Final Ruins initially planned to corrupt him with a Black and White Flowing Light. He later learned of this scheme and redirected Old Gou's attention toward Su Chen instead. 624 668
Assault on the Bronze Church
The World Honored One secretly targeted Meteorfall Mountain and the Bronze Church through the Faith Golden Body. Although Huijing attempted to empower it through the Grand Nirvana Sacrifice, Su Chen erased the World Honored One's imprint from its Faith Spirits and destroyed the Golden Body. 629 630
He later arrived at Meteorfall Mountain personally after learning that Su Chen had used the Black and White Flowing Light. He threatened the Bronze Church and attempted to seize the power for himself, only to witness Su Chen's true advancement to Hao Ri. 688 689 690
Fall of Buddha Land's Original Pillar Lord
Su Chen infiltrated Buddha Land and released the Body of Greed, Hatred, and Delusion from beneath Delusion-Breaking Forest. The body exposed the World Honored One's plan to convert and reabsorb it for common-ruler power, while Su Chen also took Buddha Land's Buddha Sariras and Spirits of Radiant Moon. 662 663
The World Honored One confronted Su Chen directly and deployed the World-Fixing Bell, Vajras, the Buddha-Refining Incantation, and the Hao Ri Rune Array. The confrontation ended only when Amitabha intervened, as the two bodies' shared origin prevented them from harming one another effectively. 664 665
Final Defeat and Succession
After Su Chen advanced to Hao Ri, the World Honored One openly joined Old Gou in an attempt to kill Su Chen and the Primordial Mountain Lord. The alliance was exposed when Amitabha appeared, destroying the World Honored One's standing among the Pillar Lords. 691 692
Su Chen cornered and killed the World Honored One, destroying his escaping thoughts and swallowing his spirituality. To prevent chaos in Buddha Land, Su Chen allowed Amitabha to assume the World Honored One's position under his control. 693 694 695
Trivia
- The World Honored One's Buddhist name, Mi Chen, was only revealed after his death. 676
- Buddha Land publicly concealed his death by issuing a joint statement with the Bronze Church claiming that he had helped defend the Bronze Church against the Final Ruins. 696
- His attempt to use the Body of Greed, Hatred, and Delusion to obtain common-ruler authority was the chief reason the other Hao Ris became increasingly distrustful of him. 687
