| Stage / Realm / Level | Chapter | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Late Golden Immortal of the Great Firmament | 9 | Had devoured countless innate beings and spiritual objects; its Heaven-Opening baleful energy had tempered a physique stronger than ordinary beings of its realm. |
| Suppressed and weakened | 10–13 | Li Changsheng’s Heaven-Opening Mark permanently pierced its regeneration, then the World-Cleansing Divine Light removed portions of its baleful aura and reduced the false strength accumulated from it. |
| Origin transformation in progress | 14–15 | Its Devouring Law assimilated Heaven-Opening baleful energy and world-cleansing power under Li Changsheng’s assistance. It entered a deep slumber after its origin stabilized; its eventual qualitative change remains unrevealed. |
Appearance
Taotie is a massive, grotesque ferocious beast whose body causes the ground to shake with every movement. Its form is defined by animalistic features and an aura of relentless hunger 9.
- Sheep-like body covered in rough, hairless gray-black flesh.
- Scarlet eyes located beneath its armpits.
- Enormous head and a mouth split to its ears, lined with tiger-like fangs.
- No feet beneath its belly.
- Exudes dense black Heaven-Opening baleful energy and an oppressive, destructive presence. 9 10
Personality
Before its transformation, Taotie possesses no apparent reason or restraint. It is driven solely by endless hunger, greed, slaughter, and the instinct to devour everything in its path—including rocks, withered vegetation, spiritual energy, and living beings 9.
Its behavior is shaped by Heaven-Opening baleful energy and an unknown force buried within its origin. Li Changsheng considers the possibility that such beasts are corrupted rather than inherently evil, prompting his attempt to remake Taotie instead of destroying it 13.
Abilities & Skills
Devouring Law
Taotie’s innate Great Dao allows it to consume and assimilate matter, energy, and opposing powers.
- Generates a devouring vortex capable of pulling in spiritual energy, mountains, vegetation, and Heaven-Opening baleful energy across a vast area. 10
- Devours non-spiritual matter and converts it into baleful energy and strength. 9
- Awakened fully during its transformation, absorbing both Heaven-Opening baleful energy and world-cleansing power into its origin. 14
- The assimilation process required Li Changsheng to suppress and regulate the conflicting powers to prevent Taotie’s destruction. 14
Heaven-Opening Baleful Energy
Taotie’s flesh, meridians, soul, and true spirit were deeply saturated with Heaven-Opening baleful energy.
- Releases corrosive black Sha Qi capable of ravaging the surrounding land. 9 10
- Rapidly heals physical injuries by mobilizing the baleful energy within its body. 10
- Makes direct purification difficult because the energy is fused with its body and soul rather than merely surrounding it. 10
- Its external baleful aura can be dissolved by the World-Cleansing Divine Light, though an unknown force within its origin reacts violently to deeper purification. 13
Ferocious Physique
Taotie possesses a body tempered by Heaven-Opening baleful energy.
- Its physical strength surpasses ordinary late Great Firmament Golden Immortals. 9
- Ordinary creation techniques can wound it but cannot prevent its rapid regeneration. 10
- A trace of Li Changsheng’s first Heaven-Opening Mark pierced its body and prevented the resulting wound from healing. 10
Background / History
Encounter at the Eastern Sea Shore
Taotie first appears near the Eastern Sea Shore during the Monstrous Beast Calamity. Having consumed innumerable innate beings and spiritual objects, it attacks Li Changsheng after sensing the pure creation aura surrounding him, treating him as an exceptional prey 9.
Li Changsheng recognizes Taotie as an ideal subject for studying the relationship between monstrous beasts and Heaven-Opening baleful energy. He engages it without using the Hongmeng Measuring Ruler or the full innate power of the Creation Green Lotus, intending to test his own combat abilities 9 10.
Suppression and Study
Taotie’s Devouring Law cannot affect Li Changsheng’s Heaven-Opening Body Technique, while its formidable self-healing is overcome by a trace of the first Heaven-Opening Mark. Li Changsheng then confines it in a lotus-platform prison formed through the Creation Secret Art and stores it for later study 10.
After obtaining insight into the World-Cleansing Great Dao, Li Changsheng keeps Taotie imprisoned for a thousand years and uses it to test the World-Cleansing Divine Light. The divine light successfully purifies its external baleful aura, but deeper cleansing triggers an unknown, cold force hidden within Taotie’s origin, allowing it to rupture its restraints 12 13.
Origin Transformation
Li Changsheng subdues the rampaging Taotie with the Chaos Thunder Seed rather than killing it. He decides to remake it through creation power, world-cleansing power, and a spiritual leaf from the Pure World White Lotus 13.
The white lotus leaf and Taotie’s baleful energy initially clash violently enough to threaten its destruction. Taotie’s dormant Devouring Law then activates, steadily absorbing and assimilating both opposing forces while Li Changsheng contains the process with his creation power 14.
Once the last traces of both powers are assimilated, Taotie’s violent aura settles and its body begins to recover. Exhausted, it enters a deep slumber in Li Changsheng’s origin secret realm, where it continues its unprecedented transformation without outside interference 14 15.
Relationships
- Li Changsheng — Captor, researcher, and transformer. Li suppresses Taotie, uses it to test purification methods, and attempts to convert it into a future guardian force rather than execute it 10 13 15.
- Shen Ni — Claimed owner and apparent superior. Shen Ni had placed an origin-tracking mark on Taotie and confronts Li Changsheng after the mark vanishes, demanding its return 15.
