Background / History

Opening of Heaven and Earth

Before the Primordial World existed, Pangu stood at the core of primordial chaos and wielded the Creation-Splitting Great Dao. With the Heaven-Opening Divine Axe, he split the chaos, causing clear qi to rise as heaven and turbid qi to sink as earth. He then slew the three thousand chaos gods that resisted the creation of the new world. 1

The newborn heaven and earth were unstable and threatened to collapse. Pangu held the sky apart with his own body for billions of years until the world stabilized, exhausting his life in the process. 1

Upon his death, Pangu's body transformed into the Primordial World's foundations:

• His primordial spirit split into three.
• His essence blood became the twelve drops that gestated the Twelve Ancestral Witches.
• His muscles became mountains and land.
• His blood became rivers and seas.
• His hair became vegetation.
• His eyes became the sun, moon, and stars.

Although Pangu perished, his Creation-Splitting Great Dao origin did not fully dissipate. He retained a strand of consciousness to watch over the world he created. 2

Pangu deliberately left a hidden small world for the Creation Green Lotus, protecting its nearly shattered origin after the opening of heaven and earth. He preserved Li Changsheng's soul and isolated the lotus from external danger until it could mature. 2

After Li Changsheng revealed the Primordial World's future calamities and eventual Age of Dharma Decline, Pangu was devastated by the prospect that the world created at the cost of his life would decline into ruin. 2 3

Pangu made an agreement with Li Changsheng: he would enable the Creation Green Lotus to take form against the laws of heaven and pass down his inheritance, while Li Changsheng would strive to alter the world's fate and prevent the Age of Dharma Decline. 3

Later Involvement

Pangu gave Li Changsheng the Heaven-Opening Origin, nine Heaven-Opening Marks, and the Green Lotus Genesis Scripture. He instructed him to strengthen his foundation, comprehend the inheritance, and change the coming Monstrous Beast Calamity. 4

When the Great Dao punished Li Changsheng for attempting to take form, Pangu's will intervened and bore the pressure, allowing Li Changsheng to successfully transform. He later advised Li Changsheng to temper his physical body within chaos. 5

Before Li Changsheng entered the Primordial World, Pangu revealed the location of the Creation Demon God's sealed remnant body and eventually granted him the Hongmeng Measuring Ruler for protection. 6 7

When Li Changsheng returned with a World Tree sapling, Pangu revealed that he had once searched all of chaos for a World Tree seed. He believed it could have stabilized heaven and earth, spared him from the creation calamity, and allowed him to survive the opening of heaven and earth. 21

Pangu's original body was a colossal giant standing between heaven and earth, billions of feet tall, with muscles compared to eternal divine mountains and eyes brighter than the sun and moon. He carried an axe capable of splitting chaos. 1
