Background / History
Origin and transformation
Wuchen awakened in the Primordial World as the Twelve-Grade World-Purifying White Lotus after transmigrating there. The Great Dao bestowed his name, cultivation method, and knowledge of the world. He eventually entered the Great Luo Golden Immortal realm and took the form of a silver-haired young man on Abbot Island. 1
His lotus true form remained linked to him after transformation; damage to it would cause him backlash. He refined Abbot Island's stele, gaining control of its top-grade innate concealment formation, before leaving to seek opportunities across the Primordial World. 1
Reclaiming the lotus platforms
Seeking to strengthen his innate foundation, Wuchen targeted the other treasures born from the Genesis Azure Lotus's seeds. He seized the Karma-Flame Red Lotus and Minghe's Yuantu and Abi Swords from the Blood Sea, knowingly creating a karmic enmity with Minghe. 2
At Mount Buzhou, Wuchen obtained the Twenty-Fourth-Grade Genesis Azure Lotus, Three-Light Divine Water, and Self-Growing Soil. In the west, he spared the not-yet-transformed Jieyin rather than erase his intelligence for the Merit Lotus, promising to claim it only after Jieyin took form. 3 4
Wuchen later entered the newly born Demon Realm, defeated Luo Hou's remnant consciousness, and claimed the World-Destroying Black Lotus and Godslayer Spear. Luo Hou's true spirit escaped into the Demon Realm, preserving the possibility of his eventual return. 5
After Hongjun began pursuing him, Wuchen secluded himself on Abbot Island, reached the peak of the Great Luo realm, and later claimed the Merit Lotus from Jieyin. He gave Jieyin information concerning the karmic debt owed to the western lands as compensation. 6
Wuchen fused four lotus platforms into the Twenty-Fourth-Grade Chaos White Lotus. Although the fusion greatly strengthened his body, primordial spirit, and Dao foundation, he declined to force a full reversal into a chaos-level innate origin because it would require leaving the Primordial World. 7
Guiding the Primordial World
Traveling as the old Daoist Dan Yangzi, Wuchen gave cryptic guidance to Laozi and Tongtian while deliberately withholding it from Yuanshi. He later informed Nuwa that her Dao lay with humanity and that she must wait for the proper opportunity. 8 9
Wuchen warned Di Jiang and Houtu that the Witch Clan faced eventual destruction. He provided Houtu with an opportunity connected to attaining the Dao, leading the Ancestral Witches to restrain their clans and eventually withdraw toward the Blood Sea. 10 13
While seeking a breakthrough, Wuchen discovered a Creation Jade Disc Fragment containing thirteen complete rules. He used it alongside the Genesis Azure Lotus to develop the Dao-Nurturing Method, planting the lotus in his dantian to nurture his own Great Dao rather than follow the Primordial Unity or Three Corpses paths. 11 12
Conflict with Hongjun
After becoming a Dao Venerable, Wuchen openly challenged Hongjun. His Purifying Divine Light erased Hongjun's rule-based attacks, while the Godslayer Spear forced the Heavenly Dao Saint onto the defensive. 16 17
During the battle, Wuchen purified Hongjun's connection to the Pangu Banner and seized it. The Twelve Ancestral Witches then arrived in the Pangu Dharma Form, compelling Hongjun to retreat. 17 18
Wuchen returned to Abbot Island, constructed Wuchen Palace, and gave a targeted sermon to the Twelve Ancestral Witches. His teachings helped six of them reach the Zenith Heaven Golden Immortal peak and the remaining six reach the late stage. 18 19
When Laozi, Tongtian, and Nuwa sought help removing Hongjun's Primordial Purple Qi, Wuchen determined that its Heavenly Dao power could not safely be removed at his current level. He suggested that the Great Dao, or possibly a future opportunity, might offer a solution. 20 21
Appearance
Wuchen's usual transformed form is a refined young man appearing around twenty years old, with a sacred and composed bearing. He can also appear as the elderly Daoist Dan Yangzi. 1 8
- Long silver-white hair and jade-like features. 1
- White, broad-sleeved immortal robes. 1
- A divine lotus-platform pattern between his brows after the four-lotus fusion. 7
- Often manifests an azure lotus phantom beneath himself while seated or preaching. 18
- His Dan Yangzi disguise is an old Daoist with white hair, a youthful face, and an immortal aura. 8
Personality
Wuchen is pragmatic and calculating in matters of cultivation. He seized Minghe's natal treasures to improve his own foundation, but waited for Jieyin to take form rather than incur the greater karma of erasing him outright. 2 3 4
He is cautious when confronting threats beyond his reach. Rather than gamble on reversing his origin into chaos or directly resisting the Heavenly Dao before he is ready, he acknowledges the risks and cultivates patiently. 7 21
Despite his opportunism, Wuchen repeatedly guides others toward independent paths. His advice to Nuwa, the Three Pure Ones, Jieyin, and the Witch Clan consistently emphasizes avoiding Heavenly Dao control and preparing for future opportunities. 8 9 10 20
Wuchen is openly contemptuous toward Hongjun, refusing to defer to the authority of a Heavenly Dao Saint and using Hongjun's hidden schemes as leverage. 16 18 23
