The Interception Sect was founded on Tongtian Cult Master’s principle of teaching without discrimination: opening a path of survival and cultivation to the countless beings of the Primordial World. • The sect’s recruitment test is a pitch-black Dao Stele bearing the Grand Compendium of the Supreme Clarity Immortal Arts, personally left by Tongtian Cult Master. 3
• Its open admissions create the famous spectacle of “ten thousand immortals come to court,” with cultivators arriving from throughout the Primordial World. 3

History

After the Three Pure Ones separated, Tongtian Cult Master established his Daoist ground on Golden Ao Island and began recruiting disciples on a vast scale. By the time Xuan Liu arrived, the sect stood at the height of its prosperity, with immense numbers of immortals seeking entry beneath its saintly banner. 2 3

Its strength was symbolized by its four original personal disciples—Duobao Daoist, Golden Spirit Holy Mother, Unyielding Holy Mother, and Turtle Spirit Holy Mother—who were all Daluo Golden Immortals. Xuan Liu’s instantaneous comprehension of the Upper Clear Immortal Method earned him an audience with Tongtian and his acceptance as the fifth personal disciple. 3 4 6

Despite its outward grandeur, the sect faced two long-term threats: it lacked a treasure capable of suppressing its fortune, and many indiscriminately accepted disciples carried severe karmic burdens. Xuan Liu acquired the Twelve-Petal Pure World White Lotus and later presented it to Tongtian, allowing the sect’s fortune to be suppressed and reassembled. 11 13 30 31

The sect’s prestige rose sharply during the Xuanmen Grand Tournament. Xuan Liu broke the Yin-Yang Twofold Ritual Formation to win the comprehension contest, while his later victory over Yellow Dragon secured the Interception Sect’s tournament victory over the Expounding Sect. He was ultimately declared champion. 20 25 29

Following a Western Sect plot against Xuan Liu, Tongtian openly defended his disciple, attacking Mount Sumeru and later obtaining the Empowering Divine Pestle as compensation. The affair exposed Long-Eared Fixed-Light Immortal as an internal informant for the Western Sect. 35 37 39

Tongtian personally executed Long-Eared after confirming his betrayal. He then empowered Xuan Liu to reform the sect, resulting in the Heart-Questioning Formation’s large-scale judgment of outer and registered disciples. The purge eliminates or punishes heavily karmic members, while upright disciples may gain opportunities through the formation; afterward, the sect’s fortune becomes stable. 39 40 41 43
