Background

Origin and Early Coexistence

Hei Lin appears when Tang Wulin's consciousness splits into two sharply distinct halves. While Bai Lin embodies the lighter emotions, Hei Lin is formed from the stripped-away gloom, resentment, frustration, and malice; he initially appears as an identical boy shrouded in an inescapably cold, ink-black aura 1.

He is the first to pursue the origin of their abnormal power without hesitation. After studying evidence of their mutations, he identifies the Golden Dragon King's bloodline as the source of their rapidly strengthening bodies and insists that it must be mastered rather than allowed to rage out of control 16. He later guides Bai Lin's bloodline development, physical training, cultivation, and study of martial souls and forging 19 60.

Independent Separation

The Tiger Talisman allows Bai Lin and Hei Lin to split into separate people for a time. Hei Lin immediately embraces control of the body and travels with Wu Changkong to Heaven Dou City, where he receives the Tang Sect's Mysterious Heaven Skill and enters a new phase of cultivation 88.

At the Tang Sect's core, Tang San's statue provokes an unusually intense bloodline resonance in him, stronger than the reactions he experiences around Gu Yue and Na'er. The connection leaves him disturbed and determined to uncover its cause 93. During this period, he cultivates relentlessly, raises both soul spirits to 8,000 years, and later reunites with Bai Lin; the cultivation and memories accumulated during Hei Lin's time in control transfer to Bai Lin 100.

Shrek City's Aftermath

When Bai Lin is gravely damaged after protecting Shrek City, Hei Lin takes control of their body. Focused on restoring himself and pursuing revenge, he drains Long Yeyue's life force, destroys the Golden Ancient Tree and Sea God Pavilion, and absorbs the tree's essence to heal more than half of his injuries 301.

The Golden Ancient Tree's final origin becomes the Seed of Nature within Hei Lin. At the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well, he reveals himself as the Dragon God, subduing the Water Dragon King, Fire Dragon King, and six ferocious beasts. He gains six immortal-herb soul spirits and becomes recognized as the Child of Nature 307 311 312.

Blood God Legion

Seeking Abyss energy to restore his body, Hei Lin joins the Blood God Legion. He passes its survival assessment without using conventional weapons or Soul Power, while nearby Abyss creatures die simply from approaching his natural Dragon God pressure 319. The legion promotes him directly to second lieutenant and assigns him to the Special Services Division 321.

Hei Lin covertly absorbs and converts Abyss energy, kills the Black Empress, snaps an Abyss Sovereign's finger with a Dragon God phantom, and later annihilates multiple Abyss sovereigns with his Nine-Colored Dragon Claw 326 327 338. By consuming their energy and Plane Seeds, he fully recovers from his injuries 345.

He ultimately leaves the legion to uncover and punish those responsible for Shrek City's destruction, despite the security his presence provided against the Abyss 349 351. Bai Lin later confirms that the two can exist in independent bodies and that Hei Lin has departed 364.

Appearance

Hei Lin has the same physical appearance as Bai Lin and Tang Wulin, but his bearing is radically different: sharp, flamboyant, and openly untamed rather than gentle or restrained 88.

He is dismissive of status, rules, and political procedure when they obstruct his goals 351.

He particularly despises those who exploit privilege or strength to oppress weaker people. When Long Yue attempts to crush Bai Lin with spiritual pressure, Hei Lin reverses the pressure and condemns him for using power to bully others 231.

Despite his indifference toward most people, Bai Lin is his decisive exception. Hei Lin restrains his desire for indiscriminate vengeance because Bai Lin would suffer from the consequences, and he willingly forgoes further energy absorption to avoid damaging Bai Lin's interests 313 351. He eventually acknowledges that he loves Bai Lin, though he struggles to understand the feeling itself 313.
