Background

Gu Yue entered the human world because the soul beast race had been driven toward extinction by human expansion and slaughter. Her original objective was to understand humanity, strengthen herself, and eventually lead soul beasts in reclaiming living space—even if that meant destroying human civilization. 505

At some earlier point, she forcibly divided her own source and separated Na’er from herself for an unspecified purpose. Remaining divided would prevent Gu Yue from returning to a complete Silver Dragon King state and limit her ability to reach godhood. 438

She arrived at Eastsea Academy after its enrollment period had ended and requested admission directly. Wu Changkong allowed her to prove herself in a spar against Bai Lin, after which her elemental control earned her placement in Class Five, Grade One. 52 53

Gu Yue later became associated with the Spirit Pagoda under Leng Yaozhu’s mentorship. Although she studied with Shrek Academy as an exchange student and was selected among the Shrek Seven Monsters, she stated that her future belonged to the Spirit Pagoda. 149 264

Beneath that aloof exterior, she is deeply burdened by responsibility for the soul beast race. For a long time, her love for Tang Wulin conflicted with her fear of the Golden Dragon King’s return and her duty as soul beast sovereign. 235 259 260
