The newly released list of Shrek's political representatives immediately drew intense attention.
Not only from the public, but also from Soul Masters from all walks of life.
At the top of Shrek's list of council representatives was a man named Luo Guixing.
"Luo Guixing...? Why does that name sound so familiar...?" Quite a few Soul Masters fell into thought upon seeing the list.
Three weeks earlier.
Sea God Pavilion's temporary meeting chamber.
"Class President, this isn't a funny joke." Even Luo Guixing, who always wore a smile, could not keep his expression from stiffening.
Tang Wulin leaned back in his chair, a stack of documents in hand, and said with a smile, "This isn't a joke. It's the Sea God Pavilion's collective decision."
Luo Guixing took a deep breath. "Class President, to be honest, my ambitions don't lie here. But if the Sea God Pavilion insists, then for the academy's sake, I can accept it."
Tang Wulin set the documents on the table. "I understand. As a Soul Master, you naturally don't want to divide your energy among these matters. But as you said, the academy truly has no one more suitable right now."
Luo Guixing was puzzled. "Why exactly do you think I can do this?"
Tang Wulin spread his hands. "Can't you?"
Luo Guixing choked on his words.
In every kind of team, he had always been responsible for decision-making and scheduling. If they had to pick the best from a mediocre bunch, then he truly was the most socially adept among the younger generation. He had that much self-awareness.
Luo Guixing casually pulled over a chair and sat down, letting out a long sigh. "I can probably guess what the academy is planning, and I agree with it, but this..."
Tang Wulin looked at him with complete sincerity. "How about this? On behalf of the academy, I promise that if you find or cultivate a successor within the academy, you can step down at any time. Not only that, as long as you accept the position and enter the council on the academy's behalf, you will immediately become one of the Sea God Pavilion's elders and receive preferential access to academy resources. The academy will compensate for any lag in your cultivation."
"...I really don't understand politics."
"I'll ask a councilor from the dovish faction who is close to us to guide you."
"What if I mess it up?"
Tang Wulin curled his lips into a smile. "I believe in you."
Caught off guard by the gaze of Tang Wulin's deep eyes, Luo Guixing shuddered. "Class President, does Gu Yue know you talk like that?"
Tang Wulin raised a brow. "What did I say?"
Luo Guixing waved his hand helplessly. "Forget it..."
Tang Wulin immediately presented the documents with both hands. "Councilor Luo, here you are."
Luo Guixing's mouth twitched.
He viciously snatched the documents away and snorted. "Class President, it's settled then. Once I become a Titled Douluo, bring a four-word battle armor to see me."
Tang Wulin's smile was radiant. "No problem."
Three weeks later.
After undergoing Mo Wu's special training, Luo Guixing led Shrek Academy's councilor team through one press conference after another.
After finishing all the scheduled proceedings, even with Luo Guixing's cultivation, he could not help feeling utterly exhausted.
He slumped in his chair and looked at his colleagues, who were no different from him, all tired as dogs, then let out a faint sigh.
Whenever he recalled Tang Wulin's smiling face, Luo Guixing gritted his teeth in anger.
I must have been out of my mind! Luo Guixing covered his face.
Yet his reluctance had gradually diminished.
Only after truly coming into contact with politics did Luo Guixing deeply realize just how precarious Shrek and the Tang Sect had been before gaining a voice.
To say nothing else, the shadow cast by the two Godslayers still hung over Shrek City. That radiation could now only be resisted through the remaining life force of the Golden Ancient Tree. Before a new Life Ancient Tree could grow, even several Limit Douluo were helpless against it—it was pure power of destruction, requiring sufficient life force to dispel.
And even though Shrek had entered the council and officially begun participating in politics, the situation could not change overnight. Most of the upper council's family representatives, pressured by public opinion and fearful of facing Yun Ming's wrath, did not dare openly suppress Shrek. But once the uproar died down, those politicians would gradually squeeze Shrek out again—if Shrek failed to establish a firm foothold first.
Mo Wu did not hide any of this. Instead, he analyzed it all with great clarity for Shrek's delegation. Moreover, over the past three weeks, the power struggles between the various factions had already begun to reveal themselves.
The more Luo Guixing learned, the more he understood the importance of Shrek's delegation, and the less dissatisfaction and resentment he felt.
Until the communications line on the table suddenly rang.
Luo Guixing abruptly sat upright and answered the call.
"This is Luo Guixing. What is it?"
Mo Wu's steady voice came through the line. "There's an emergency meeting. Come over now."
The other exhausted Shrek members cast sympathetic looks at him.
Luo Guixing ended the call, his face numb as he gathered the documents from the table.
Class President, screw you!
Shrek Spirit Pagoda Headquarters.
Watching the familiar but clearly much weaker shadow spread across the room, Qiangu Dongfeng gave a cold laugh. "You still dare come here. After being severely wounded by Yali, you wouldn't last a single move against me."
The shadow swayed, and then a somewhat hoarse voice slowly emerged. "Is Pagoda Master Qiangu planning to draw a clear line between us?"
Qiangu Dongfeng leaned against the back of his chair and watched him indifferently. "You haven't fulfilled a single one of your promises, yet you dare discuss terms with me?"
The person within the shadow seemed to laugh, making the atmosphere especially sinister. "Don't forget Him. As long as He can take that step, we will all become eternal within the divine realm. Pagoda Master Qiangu, this is a deal you can never lose money on, isn't it?"
"Do you really think Shrek and the Tang Sect are fools?" Qiangu Dongfeng's face darkened. "Now that the election is over, many upper council families have backed down. Shrek will soon have time to investigate what happened. Zang Xin has been to the Far North and knows where your nest is. Do you think they won't take any action? Have your brains been in the Far North so long that they've all frozen into ice?"
The shadow seemed to have had a sore spot struck and turned agitated, icy energy rushing toward Qiangu Dongfeng. Qiangu Dongfeng snorted coldly and waved his hand, fiercely striking the shadow as though delivering a slap. Anger appeared on his face as he spat out, "You're nothing but the Demon Emperor's mouthpiece, yet you dare act so arrogantly before me?"
The shadow was directly scattered apart, and sunlight once again streamed through the floor-to-ceiling windows onto the ground.
Qiangu Dongfeng stared sternly at the floor and took a deep breath.
Before long, every trace of expression vanished from his face, returning it to calm. He returned to his desk and pressed the communications button.
A cool female voice soon sounded. "Pagoda Master. Did you need something?"
"Yue'er, put the Myriad Beast Platform on the market as soon as possible," Qiangu Dongfeng said in a deep voice.
There seemed to be a brief pause on the other end. "Understood."
As usual, Qiangu Dongfeng asked about her progress with Qiangu Zhangting. Upon learning that she still had no particular thoughts on the matter, Qiangu Dongfeng narrowed his eyes slightly and ended the call.
