Background / History

Shrek had remained the continent's foremost academy for roughly twenty thousand years and traditionally avoided political involvement. Its leadership viewed neutrality as a means of preserving balance, but Tang Wulin argued that neutrality without the power to deter attacks only invited danger. 4

The academy initiated a teacher-and-student exchange with the Douling Empire, its first major outward step in years. The agreement drew Federation controversy, though Shrek publicly characterized it as a normal revival of its exchange tradition. 4 9

Shrek later joined the Federation-led exchange to Star Luo, where its students entered the All-Continent Advanced Soul Master Elite Tournament. Cai Yue'er required Shrek's delegation to win the individual, doubles, and team championships. 11 13

Following the Holy Spirit Cult's Godslayer bombardment of Shrek City, the Golden Ancient Tree sacrificed itself to protect the academy. Its remnants later reformed into the Life Tree during a ceremony supported by Shrek's teachers, students, and Sea God Pavilion elders. 45 49

Traditions and Programs

Shrek Seven Monsters

The Sea God Pavilion selects the Shrek Seven Monsters, who retain their positions for five years but must defend them in an annual challenge tournament. Students under twenty-five from either court may challenge an individual Monster or form a seven-person team to challenge the entire group. 30

Reformed Admissions and Instruction

Shrek's Martial Soul Department now admits applicants publicly without enrollment quotas. Applicants who meet the required age and Soul Power standards may participate in the academy's revised assessment. 51

Political Role

Shrek entered Federation politics after the Holy Spirit Cult attack exposed the limits of its former neutrality. Backed by the Tang Sect and allied dovish factions, it fielded candidates for parliamentary seats and became a new political force. 47

To obtain representation, Shrek ceded part of its autonomy and voluntarily disbanded its military forces, while retaining the right to military defense. 47
