Background / History
Cao Ye was an ordinary person before transmigrating to Orario. Upon arrival, he received the Card Draw System, a system limited to card pulls, and fused with All the World's Evil through his beginner gift pack. The fusion reshaped his body, gave him monster-like durability and regeneration, and made magical energy essential to his survival 1.
Before joining a Familia, Cao Ye entered the Dungeon as an unaffiliated adventurer. He survived by absorbing magic stones, selling monster drops, and relying on regeneration to endure injuries that would kill an ordinary person. He killed robbers and hostile adventurers who targeted him, but his first human kill left him physically and psychologically shaken for days 1 2 13.
Freya noticed the “evil” within him after he left the Dungeon and had Ottar bring him to her. She granted him a Falna, inducted him into the Freya Familia, and allowed him to reside in Babel Tower while she watched his growth as a potential hero 2 4 14.
Later, Cao Ye obtained the Simulated Star Map: Final Fantasy. Its emergence separated All the World's Evil from him into an independent entity, ending his status as its bearer; however, he could not yet practically wield the Star Map's power 132.
Appearance
Cao Ye has a refined, well-proportioned physique that becomes increasingly muscular as his physical abilities grow. His body is described as having “golden proportions,” a narrow waist, and defined muscles rather than excessive bulk 38 71 127.
- Initially bears frequent Dungeon wounds, including injuries severe enough to cost him fingers or limbs before regeneration restores them 6 21 22.
- Can cover himself in Black Mud, forming a black robe-like combat appearance 20.
- His enhanced physique is noted as attractive and physically imposing even when facing deep-floor monsters 71 127.
Personality
Cao Ye is laid-back, opportunistic, and strongly motivated by comfort, money, and self-preservation. He dislikes unnecessary work, gathers magic stones whenever possible, and repeatedly seeks abilities that would prevent financial hardship, such as Golden Rule 16 29 63.
Despite his carefree demeanor, he is pragmatic in dangerous situations. He will use brutal measures against hostile enemies, destroy evidence when necessary, and exploit his regeneration to survive, but he initially avoids using Black Mud to gain power because he considers devouring living beings a wicked method 13 14 20.
He recognizes his own shortcomings. After relying on instinctive brawling and raw physical ability in the Dungeon, he earnestly accepted Finn's instruction to improve his swordsmanship and combat fundamentals 6 38. He also accepts responsibility for the consequences of his relationships rather than making excuses 119.
Abilities & Skills
All the World's Evil and Black Mud
Cao Ye originally possessed All the World's Evil, which transformed his magical power into Black Mud and gave him extraordinary survivability.
- Enhances his physical body to a level comparable to Dungeon monsters 1.
- Regenerates wounds and severed limbs as long as he has sufficient magical energy 1 20.
- Can form armor-like enhancements and black weapons around his body 20 21.
- Can devour living beings to obtain magical energy; Cao Ye avoided this use unless forced by circumstance 14.
- Causes Dungeon monsters to collapse upon contact, though he suspects the Dungeon prevents him from controlling them 20 25.
- Became an independent entity after the Simulated Star Map separated it from Cao Ye 132.
Miracle of Absolute Evil
His first Falna skill grants three exceptional effects.
- Super-Domain Soul Enhancement — strengthens his soul beyond normal limits 4.
- Super-Domain Physical Enhancement — greatly augments physical ability in addition to his original constitution 4 6.
- Immunity to Negative Effects — protects him from effects such as poison 4 6.
Card Draw System
Cao Ye's system converts Diamonds from missions and achievements into card pulls.
- Began with the Fate card pool and later unlocked a limited Jujutsu Kaisen pool 1 22.
- Draws magecraft, skills, Noble Phantasms, cursed techniques, weapons, and crafting resources 1 23 42 92.
- Achievement rewards tied to milestones, including level-ups and survival, supply large quantities of Diamonds 22 41 72.
- Some high-level pulls use Freya's lifespan as a cost 35.
Projection Magecraft
Cao Ye can reproduce weapons from memory through ordinary Projection Magecraft.
- Creates usable weapons without purchasing or repairing replacements 1 2.
- Projected weapons consume mana and disappear once his mana is exhausted 2 16.
- Can use projected weapons as Broken Phantasms, detonating them for explosive damage 12.
- Initially projects only ordinary weapons and lacks Shirou Emiya's aptitude or Reality Marble 1 2.
Imaginary Magic and Imaginary Space
Imaginary Magic grants Cao Ye access to an internal storage space and weapon-launching combat style.
- Stores weapons, monster drops, magic stones, spare clothing, and other supplies 15 29 80 131.
- Opens passages to launch stored weapons like Gilgamesh's Gate of Babylon 15 16.
- Uses the named Gate of Babylon against groups of enemies, including black scorpions 83.
- Cannot store projected weapons permanently because projections vanish when their mana supply ends 16.
Mana Burst
Mana Burst temporarily channels magic power into Cao Ye's body.
- Greatly increases speed, strength, and reflexes 15 16.
- Lets him defeat Hellhounds and Unicorn Rabbits with ease 15 16.
- Has an approximate combat duration of fifteen minutes before the enhancement ends 16.
Sorcerer and Twin Lotus Flowers
The Sorcerer skill lets Cao Ye create cursed energy from his negative emotions, merging it with his magic power 25.
- Cursed Technique Lapse: Evil Flower — manifests as a black-red spider lily; absorbs and neutralizes evil, then strengthens Cao Ye 70 72.
- Cursed Technique Reversal: Benevolent Flower — manifests as a white mandala; heals injured people and can tame monsters 72 109.
- The two techniques allow Cao Ye to wield opposing concepts of “evil” and “good” simultaneously 72 109.
Cursed Corpse Manipulation
Cao Ye gained Puppet Manipulation knowledge from the Jujutsu Kaisen card pool and can construct cursed corpses.
- Builds cores from magic gemstones, then engraves cursed techniques into them 22 23.
- Created Charmander, a durable combat cursed corpse made from metal, monster materials, juvenile dragon leather, and a magic gemstone core 23 24.
- Modified Charmander after its fire-breathing function caused it to explode on activation 24.
- Uses cursed corpses as Dungeon combatants and scouts 24 39 52.
- Created or commands other cursed corpses, including Paimon, who can absorb magic stones through Imaginary Magic 63 66.
Ratio Technique
A technique that turns attacks into critical-hit-like strikes against designated weak points.
- Allows Cao Ye to kill sturdy monsters such as Boar Men with overwhelming force 29.
- Works better with blunt or blunt-edged weapons than sharp swords 29.
- Was used against Goliath and later combined with Excalibur to defeat the Corrupted Spirit in one strike 39 111.
Jewel Magecraft
Jewel Magecraft controls magical power contained within gemstones.
- Can theoretically command every element through suitable gemstones 68.
- Clears large swarms of insect and water-element monsters 66 68.
- Supports Cao Ye's mining and resource-gathering in the Water City Labyrinth 68.
Falna-Derived Skills
- Last Master — greatly increases growth speed, provides a Miracle of Desperation, and increases charm and affinity 62.
- Orion's Blessing — identifies Cao Ye as Orion's mortal incarnation and Artemis's lover; enhances physical and mental strength and increases his strength by 50% at night 122.
- Beautiful Youth — grants a charm effect regardless of gender, though strong mental strength or willpower can resist it 123.
- Stairway to Godhood — awakened upon Cao Ye's advancement to Lv. 6; its appearance caused Freya to question his identity 133.
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Black Sword — a Level 2 weapon provided by Freya; one of Cao Ye's regular weapons during his early training 38.
- Inverted Spear of Heaven — originally a Special-Grade Cursed Tool drawn from the system; later altered into an “evil cursed tool” that Cao Ye can wield naturally 35 38.
- Excalibur — a holy sword obtained from a card pull that darkened upon manifestation; its released attack can devastate an entire mountain range but completely drains Cao Ye's magic reserves 42 90.
- Gáe Dearg — a crimson spear that pierces magical defenses and nullifies magic-based enchantments 92 105.
- Gáe Buidhe — a golden spear whose wounds cannot be healed unless the spear is destroyed or its wielder dies 92 105.
- King's Cannon — a Noble Phantasm attack used to kill Goliath, the seventeenth-floor boss, in a single shot 125.
- Rho Aias — a Noble Phantasm deployed during the Monsterphilia crisis 109.
- Spatial rings — crafted through Mystery; Cao Ye created rings with 15 cm and 20 cm cubic storage capacities, sold them to repay Freya, and later used a ring to teleport his group back to Orario 47 119.
Relationships
- Freya — Patron goddess and the one who recruited him into the Freya Familia after detecting the evil within him. She considers him a potential hero and later accepts him as her lover 2 4 14 119.
- Ottar — Freya Familia captain who initially knocked Cao Ye unconscious on Freya's order. He later handles Freya's instructions regarding Cao Ye and recognizes his unusual strength 2 4 55.
- Finn Deimne — Combat instructor. Freya arranged for Finn to teach Cao Ye swordsmanship and correct his direct, self-taught fighting style 38.
- Tsubaki — Smith, ally, and later lover. She supported Cao Ye during his challenge of Goliath, helps sell his spatial rings, and becomes deeply involved in his life 39 47 60.
- Ais Wallenstein — Dungeon companion and admirer. She is intrigued by Cao Ye's strength and magic, repeatedly explores with him, and wants to accompany him to grow stronger 51 66 125.

- Ryu Lion — Cao Ye visits her to express gratitude for her earlier help; they later meet again through the Hermes Familia 14 83.
- Shala — Xenos ally who accepts Gorgon's Avenger Spirit Origin from Cao Ye in order to become stronger and protect her people 60.
- Lyd — Xenos leader who respects Cao Ye's strength after witnessing his overwhelming combat ability 79 80.
