Background and History
Orario was established around the Dungeon entrance to contain the monsters that once flooded from underground and ravaged the surface. Ouranos has remained at its center for a thousand years, using divine power and uninterrupted prayer to suppress the Dungeon. 21 78
Daedalus, described as the era’s greatest craftsman, created Babel Tower and established the first Orario. His obsession with surpassing the Dungeon led him to construct the first artificial labyrinth and bind that ambition into his bloodline. 53
The city’s former golden age ended when the Zeus Familia and Hera Familia failed to subjugate the last of the Three Great Monster Kings. Their destruction allowed the Dark Factions to rise and plunged Orario into turmoil until the Loki, Freya, Astraea, and Ganesha Familias helped restore order. 27 90
The present era is known as the Age of Two Kings, with the Freya Familia and Loki Familia occupying the city’s dominant positions after the decline of Zeus and Hera. 6 27
Cityscape
Babel Tower
Babel Tower is Orario’s defining landmark and provides direct access to the Dungeon through its lower levels. Its upper floors house gods and include Freya’s residence, while elevators powered by magic stones connect the tower to the Dungeon entrance. 5 10 76
- Babel’s lower levels contain one of Orario’s largest marketplaces, where adventurers can safely sell monster drops. 16
- Magic-stone lamps are widespread throughout the city, functioning as a common source of illumination. 10
- The tower’s high floors provide a view over the entire city. 5
Districts and Streets
- Third District — Orario’s slum district, marked by poverty, disorder, and danger; Daedalus Street is located here. 4 55
- North Street — Site of Twilight Manor, the Loki Familia headquarters. 38
- South Street — Location of the Freya Familia base, directly opposite Twilight Manor. 38
- Pleasure Quarter — The territory formerly controlled by the Ishtar Familia; it remained active after Ishtar’s banishment. 113
Governance and Public Order
The Guild is Orario’s central governing organization. In name, every Familia falls under its jurisdiction, and the organization maintains adventurer records, handles commissions, and controls the exchange of Dungeon magic stones for Valis. 6 12
Ouranos, who remains deep within the Guild, is both the city’s founding authority and the being responsible for suppressing the Dungeon. 6 21 78
- Ganesha Familia — Entrusted by the Guild with public security and referred to as Orario’s military police. 120
- Guild regulations — Open murder is forbidden and carries severe punishment, though crimes in Orario’s underworld are often difficult to prove. 19
- Familia politics — The city’s powerful Familias operate through rivalry, alliances, recruitment, and War Games; the strength of the Freya and Loki Familias heavily shapes this balance. 6 32 45
Economy
Orario’s economy is built around the Dungeon’s magic stones. Their stored magic supports a technological infrastructure comparable to electricity, including elevators and lighting. 10
- The Guild monopolizes magic-stone exchange, requiring adventurers to convert recovered stones into Valis through Guild channels. 12
- Babel Tower’s market offers safer trade than the streets, though its prices are lower than outside vendors. 16
- Dungeon materials, monster drops, weapons, and equipment are major sources of income for adventurers. 16 28
- Spatial rings created by Cao Ye became a major commercial product, spreading beyond Orario and generating significant demand for gems, precious metals, and gold. 61 139
- Cao Ye’s large-scale gold purchases contributed to a steady increase in Orario’s gold prices, with some people beginning to trade directly in gold. 139
The Dungeon
The Dungeon lies directly beneath Orario and predates the gods’ descent to the Lower World. It continuously produces monsters, which are regarded as the Dungeon’s children. 21
Later information identifies the Dungeon as an incarnation of Gaia, the Mother Goddess of the Earth. Even if Gaia leaves, the Dungeon can continue operating independently. 143 144
Floor Bosses
Floor Bosses, also called Solitary Kings of the Labyrinth, are unique monsters that appear one at a time on their native floors. They are generally about two levels stronger than ordinary monsters on the same floor and have irregular respawn cycles. 19
- Goliath — Floor Boss of the 17th floor. 19
- Amphisbaena — Two-Headed Dragon and Floor Boss of the 27th floor. 94
- Balor — Floor Boss of the 49th floor; its respawn is estimated only approximately because deeper bosses return more slowly and unpredictably. 141
Rivira Town
Rivira Town is an adventurer-built settlement on the Dungeon’s 18th-floor safe zone, where adventurers rest, trade, and obtain supplies. 28
- It is known as a dungeon town or rogue town. 28 66
- The settlement has been destroyed and rebuilt repeatedly by monster attacks; its entrance sign identifies it as the 331st Generation. 28
- Supplies are sold at several times their surface price because transport into the Dungeon is unreliable and dangerous. 28
- Bors operates as the town’s local boss and exercises considerable influence over its affairs. 28 100
Major Incidents
- Monsterphilia monster attack — The Dark Faction and Ishtar Familia brought a dangerous “new species” monster from the Dungeon to the surface, causing a citywide outbreak during the festival and significant casualties. 109 112
- Fall of the Ishtar Familia — Following its involvement in the Monsterphilia attack and an attempt on Freya’s life, Ishtar was sent back to Heaven and her Familia was broken apart among other Familias. 112 113
- Dark Faction resurgence — News of the Dark Faction’s return later spread through Orario, alarming those who remembered the group’s role in the city’s earlier period of chaos. 122
