Background / History

Pietro was imprisoned in President X's Mutant Prison after being arrested for theft. Following an earlier escape attempt, he was recaptured and had his right arm cut off. He later escaped again, but his super-speed metabolism left him starving; Zhang Ye found him fighting a dog for food and took him in. 2 3

Initially wary of Zhang Ye, Pietro gradually trusted him and disclosed information about the prison and President X's secret vault. He joined Zhang Ye's plan to destabilize the prison and obtain the Time Twister, despite knowing that using his powers could expose him to President X's telepathy. 2 3 13

During the operation, Pietro sabotaged the prison's generators with explosives, but President X—possessing Scarlet Witch's body—detected him, broke his leg with Chaos Magic, and attempted to take his telepathy-blocking helmet. Pietro gave the helmet and the location of the secret laboratory to Zhang Ye before collapsing into a coma. 18 19 20

His mutant healing allowed his leg to recover within roughly a week. Pietro then traveled with Zhang Ye through the multiverse, experiencing worlds where superheroes were publicly accepted and beginning to see himself as more than a hunted prisoner. 26 68 73
