Background

Kara was sent from Krypton at age fifteen while her infant cousin Kal-El traveled in a separate ship. Kal-El's vessel was intercepted by General Zod's forces, while Kara's crashed near the border of Mao Country on Earth. She was imprisoned and subjected to experiments for roughly twenty years, leaving her severely malnourished and psychologically traumatized. 43 53 54

Zhang Ye, Pietro, and Batman rescued Kara from the secret facility shortly before Zod's invasion. At Wayne Castle, direct Yellow-Sun exposure quickly restored her health and activated her Kryptonian abilities. 42 43

Kara learned that Zod had killed Kal-El while searching for the Kryptonian Codex. The loss intensified her hatred of Zod and her need to protect those she considered family, though Zhang Ye's explanation of parallel universes gave her hope that another version of Kal-El survived elsewhere. 43 54

Appearance

Kara has short black hair and initially appeared severely emaciated from prolonged imprisonment. After recovering under the Yellow Sun, she adopts a red-and-blue Kryptonian battle suit with a red cape and the House of El's S emblem. 42 58 593

  • Short black hair. 42 593
  • Red-and-blue battle suit with a red cape. 58 98
  • The S symbol on her chest represents her family and is associated with hope. 98 593
  • Her eyes glow scarlet when charging or using Heat Vision. 43 593

Personality

Kara is determined, direct, and protective, particularly regarding Kal-El and the people she accepts as family. Her childhood loss, long captivity, and uncertainty over Kal-El's fate leave her emotionally volatile and initially consumed by vengeance against Zod. 43 54

Despite this trauma, Kara is not irrational. She listens when presented with evidence, seeks answers rather than accepting easy assurances, and gradually forms a close family-like bond with Zhang Ye and Pietro. 54 126 145

She possesses a scientist's curiosity and often analyzes unfamiliar worlds, multiversal events, and other superhumans. Her experiences have also taught her that Kryptonian strength alone is insufficient against higher-level threats. 126 149

Abilities & Skills

Kryptonian Physiology

Under a Yellow Sun, Kara possesses the physical abilities of a Kryptonian empowered by solar radiation.

  • Rapidly recovers from starvation and injury through Yellow-Sun exposure. 42 592
  • Possesses immense strength, durability, speed, and flight. 42 58 90
  • Can generate a Bio-Field that enables flight and mitigates energy attacks. 42 63
  • Can move at extreme speed while suppressing sonic booms with deliberate control. 90
  • Her physical strength is formidable enough to overwhelm Parademons and challenge opponents such as Count Nefaria. 160 593
  • Her combat experience is initially inferior to trained Kryptonian soldiers such as Zod, whom Kara herself describes as genetically bred for battle. 65

Heat Vision

Kara can emit destructive scarlet energy beams from her eyes.

  • Injured General Zod during their first confrontation. 58
  • Can sweep through and annihilate large numbers of Parademons in seconds. 593

Enhanced Senses

Kara's Yellow-Sun empowerment greatly amplifies her perception.

  • Her golden light restores the life force of those immersed in it. 738
  • The power allows her to physically overwhelm the Anti-Monitor after the battlefield is stripped of conventional powers and senses. 738

Weaknesses

  • Red-Sun radiation — Overrides most Yellow-Sun enhancement, leaving her temporarily human-like and causing severe physical distress; she remains roughly three to five times stronger than an ordinary human. 52
  • Kryptonite — Weakens and harms her, as demonstrated by the Kryptonite spear encountered in the Arctic. 596
  • Psychological trauma — Her captivity and loss of Kal-El can cause emotional instability, grief, and fixation on protecting family. 54 55

Equipment / Items

  • Kryptonian battle suit — Red-and-blue uniform bearing the House of El symbol. 58 98
  • Red cape — Can be enchanted by Zhang Ye to intercept incoming Doombots. 257

  • Pietro — Close companion with a sibling-like bond; he worries for Kara's safety and supports her emotionally. 126 145
  • Kal-El / Superman — Her younger cousin and central emotional attachment. Zod killed the Kal-El of Kara's original universe, while Kara later encounters alternate versions of him. 43 54 290

  • Batman / Bruce Wayne — Ally in her rescue from captivity and later a figure Kara repeatedly moves to protect. 42 592 596
  • Black Canary — Fellow multiversal survivor; the two bond over the loss and suffering inflicted on their respective worlds. 234 239
  • Black Adam — Ally during the monster crisis. Their interactions develop into mutual trust and respect. 709
  • Clark Kent of the Apokolips War universe — An alternate Kal-El whom Kara rebukes for leading Earth into war and disaster. 290
