Have a Can of Sanguinius Sauce!
On the edge of the Baal battlefield, where the smoke of battle has not yet cleared.
On a relatively flat, temporarily cleared rock, Dante, the Chapter Master the Blood Angels, leaned wearily against the crumbling wall.
Attempt to repair the damaged basic functions of the Power Armour and treat the non-fatal but still annoying wounds on your body.
The passage of 1,500 years and the recent battle that had exhausted him only to be miraculously revived left him in a state of extreme exhaustion and numbness.
The hunger pangs in their stomachs, a need that is usually not noticeable for Space Marines, now felt as acutely as if a dull knife were scraping their bones.
His body was desperately craving energy to repair the damage and sustain this "second" life.
Just as he was trying to retrieve the high-energy gel from the emergency supply pack at his waist, a figure loomed over him.
The newcomer was dressed in finely crafted Power Armour, deep blue with gold trim.
The shoulder armor was engraved with the insignia of the Second Company and his personal honor badge; his posture was upright, exuding an innate sharpness.
It's Cato Sicarius, the former captain of the Second Company of the Ultramarines and now the captain of the Primarch Bodyguard, known for his exceptional swordsmanship and... well, a certain degree of "confidence".
Sicarius in his hand a silver-gray metal can, about the size of a human head, with the appearance of a standard Imperium can.
He walked up to Dante, stopped, and with an expression that was almost "sincere and enthusiastic," handed him the can of food, saying in a loud voice:
"Hungry? Brother, come quick, have a bowl of hot Sanguinius Sauce!"
Dante: "..."
He raised his only remaining eye, which still allowed him to see clearly, and examined Sicarius's face through the gaps in his broken visor.
That young, handsome face, usually brimming with ambition, showed no trace of sarcasm or mockery at this moment, only a kind of "sincerity" akin to that of a salesman.
But this only made Dante more wary and... confused.
Sanguinius... sauce?
The phrase collided in his mind, producing an utterly absurd echo.
Naming a sauce after the Gene-Father...?
Is this arrogant Ultramarines kid... provoking me in a way I can't understand?
Or is there some new, inexplicable ritual of humiliation circulating within the Ultramarines Legion?
Dante remained silent, not taking the object, but instead staring intently at Sicarius with his single eye, trying to find a clue in the depths of the other's gaze.
Sicarius seemed oblivious to Dante's suspicions, or rather, he simply didn't expect the other to make such a connection.
Seeing that Dante did not react, he explained even more enthusiastically, his tone full of admiration for the "inventor":
"This is delicious! It was personally researched and invented by our Gene-Father, Lord Guilliman!"
He specifically emphasized the words "Gene-Father" and "personally," as if stating an incomparably glorious fact:
"Moreover, this was specially designed for you brothers who inherited the holy bloodline of the archangels!"
It's said to contain special nutrients and... um... Psionic Energy harmonizing factors?
Anyway, it can help you suppress your Red Thirst and quickly replenish your energy! It's perfect for the current situation!
Seemingly to bolster his argument, he added, "Look, our other brothers just distributed them to the Blood Angels, and it worked very well!"
As he spoke, his gaze unconsciously drifted to several Blood Angels warriors not far away who had just received the "gift" and were now swallowing the same red paste with strange expressions.
The Blood Angels felt Sicarius's gaze, their bodies stiffened almost imperceptibly, and their swallowing became more rapid.
They exchanged a glance, and their eyes clearly conveyed:
If it weren't for... if it weren't for the fact that I really couldn't beat these blue-canned foodies, and that this stuff actually does smell kind of good...
I would have jumped up long ago and given that handsome face a good beating with the butt of my Bolter!
Dante followed Sicarius's gaze and carefully examined the other's expression.
Indeed, he saw no arrogance or provocation in Sicarius's eyes.
There was only a pure, almost ecstatic "enthusiasm," as if sharing one's most precious local specialty, and an undisguised reverence and... well, a kind of almost "idiotic" blind admiration when mentioning Guilliman?
This only made Dante more uneasy.
Could this really be some kind of... legitimate supply?
The name is just... a bit too shocking?
He hesitated for a moment, but finally reached out and somewhat reluctantly took the heavy metal can.
The container was cold, but you could feel a faint warmth emanating from inside.
The can had no fancy labels, only a simple line of Gothic inscription. "Special Tactical Supplies - S-Rank - For the Adeptus Astartes Only".
"It also has a more catchy nickname: ' Crunchy Sea Overlord Paste '!"
Seeing Dante accept it with obvious delight, Sicarius chimed in enthusiastically, even a hint of smugness on his face:
"I heard that the Gene-Father personally modified and named it based on the name of a famous dish that was very popular in Old Terra and had been lost for a long time!"
Isn't it incredibly creative? It's full of historical charm and the care of our parents!
"Fragrant and crispy... Sea Overlord Paste?"
Dante repeated the name, his lips twitching almost imperceptibly.
Is this really... a very proper name?
Why does this sound even stranger, and even more... disrespectful, than "Sanguinius Sauce"?
He looked at Sicarius again, and the expression on the other man's face could no longer be described as "sincere".
It was a completely different kind of expression—a mixture of adoration and happiness—that said, "I love my father, all of his decisions are brilliant, and the name he chose is the best in the entire Milky Way." Uh, it was a kind of "idiotic" expression.
One hand weakly covered his scarred face, Dante let out a long, melancholic sigh in his heart:
What kind of "things" are ruling and wielding power in this Imperium?!
He recalled Terra's bloated bureaucracy and the fanatical clergy of the Ecclesiarchy.
Looking at the powerful, decorated, yet somewhat "out of touch" Ultramarines company commander before him...
