We Must Adapt to Everything
The Techmarine solemnly accepted the order and began directing the Servo-Skulls to collect the blood rain flowing on the ground.
Calgar didn't say anything more, turned around and walked out of the training room.
The moment the door closed behind him, he heard Aecton and Rashid's breathing begin to steady.
After leaving the blood rain, the Smart Atoms within their bodies once again performed their intended function.
Even if they are beaten so badly they can't move right now.
They will be able to return to the battlefield by this time tomorrow.
As they walked along the bridge corridor toward the private area deep inside the ship, Calgar's bare torso and visible scars drew the attention of the soldiers along the way.
No one asked, but everyone understood what the Chapter Master had just gone through.
A challenge to one's own bloodline is beginning with the Supreme Commander.
Calgar stopped before the airtight door leading to the Primarch's private training area and took a deep breath.
Vitruum's energy is rapidly repairing his body, but the mental exhaustion is real.
He pushed the door open and entered.
The sight before them caused even the most seasoned Chapter Master to slightly shrink his pupils.
In the center of the training ground, Robert Guilliman, the Primarch the Ultramarines, is "dealing with" several bound beings.
Those were three twisted creatures:
A mutant whose body is covered in crystal-like bone spurs.
A plague carrier whose skin seemed to be crawling with countless insects.
A Slaanesh creation whose limbs are twisted in a reverse joint manner, yet exudes an eerie beauty.
They were all bound by a field of Psionic Energy, howling, pleading, or laughing madly.
Guilliman was not wearing armor, only a simple training uniform.
He walked up to the plague carrier and plunged his right hand directly into the swollen chest.
There was no splatter of blood, only thick pus and bursts of Warp turbulence.
"Come out."
The Primarch said calmly.
Something invisible was forcibly "pulled" out: a Nurgle imp, a manifestation of disease and despair, struggled in Guilliman's hand.
The next second, the Primarch closed its five fingers together.
The demon screamed and vanished, turning into pure Warp energy.
Guilliman took a deep breath, and the energy surged into his body as if drawn by a black hole.
The blue-gold Psionic Energy light on the Primarch surface flickered faintly, like breathing.
"Father."
Calgar knelt on one knee.
Guilliman turned his head, his eyes, as blue as the Macragge sky, falling on his son.
He saw the wounds, the exhaustion, and the unquenchable flame in Calgar's eyes.
"Don't be too hard on yourself, my son."
Guilliman walked toward Calgar, his voice gentle yet possessing a power that could soothe the stars:
"You did not inherit much Psionic Energy talent from my bloodline."
This isn't your problem; it's a characteristic of my bloodline itself. It's precisely because of this characteristic that the Ultramarines are the legion with the most stable genes.
This is a characteristic of the entire Ultramarines lineage, and one of the reasons why we have been able to survive in the Imperium for ten thousand years."
"But we have inherited your sacred new blood."
Calgar looked up, his gaze resolute. "We can adapt to anything."
We must adapt to everything.
"Yes, you can."
Guilliman stopped in front of Calgar and extended his hand.
Vitruum's energy flowed from his palms, and a blue-gold halo enveloped Calgar's body.
The wounds healed at a speed visible to the naked eye, the broken bones rejoined, and the fatigue receded like a receding tide.
"Relax, my son."
He withdrew his hand and examined Calgar:
"Your current physical condition, within the scope of your current physiological development, can only be considered... adolescence."
You have so much potential yet to be realized.
Calgar felt the surging power within him; not only were his injuries healed, but his Psionic Energy energy, guided by the Primarch, seemed to have achieved a profound resonance with him.
He closed his eyes, etching this moment of warmth deeply into his memory.
"We are about to arrive at the ' Valeria's Glory ' system."
Guilliman turned and looked at the star map projection.
A planet marked in deep purple is twinkling.
"I can feel that the place is deeply corrupted by the power of Slaanesh."
It's not the filth of Nurgle, nor the cunning of Tzeentch, but... the twisted pursuit of ultimate pleasure and pain.
He turned around, his eyes sharp. "You and Sicarius go and handle this together."
Bring two complete companies with you.
I've always been curious about the two most powerful warriors in the Ultramarines Chapter during my ten thousand years of slumber.
Now, let's see just how much strength they can unleash.
Calgar rose solemnly. "As you wish, Father."
We will be fully prepared, with full Power Armour and the Purity Seals blessed by the Ecclesiarchy! This time, we will crush Chaos!
"Take this with you."
Guilliman walked to the weapons rack and took down a longsword.
Calgar's breath hitched.
That was the gift he received last week: forged by Guilliman himself, its blade tempered by the flames of the Emperor's Sword, and imbued with Psionic Energy blessings by the Primarch.
In the past two days, Guilliman has also noticed his child's disappointment.
So he decided to upgrade the sword again.
Guilliman believed that when this even cooler, more stylish, and more awesome sword fell into the hands of his own child, Calgar's mood would definitely improve.
And that is indeed the case.
Calgar looked at the sword before him with excitement.
The scabbard was deep blue with gold trim, engraved with the Ultramarines ' insignia and Calgar's personal battle crest.
The sword's blade flowed with a clear, water-like blue light, and inside, it seemed as if nebulae were swirling. At the edge of the blade, a faint, ever-burning flame of Psionic Energy could be seen.
"I reforged it."
Guilliman held the sword level. "It can now not only cut through matter, but also inflict additional damage on Warp entities."
Calgar extended his hands and received the longsword with the utmost solemnity.
The sword felt warm and smooth in my hand, yet it was as heavy as a mountain.
"I will use the sword you bestowed upon me to vanquish all heretics for you and the Imperium."
He tucked the sword into its special scabbard at his waist.
His blue eyes remained solemn, but a resolute determination had ignited deep within them.
Guilliman nodded. "Go ahead, Sicarius is already waiting for you on the landing deck."
As is well known, with such a large population of Ultramarines, there are always some extraordinary men who emerge.
Cato Sicarius was such a being.
As the commander of the Second Company of the Ultramarines, known as the "Master of the Watch," his strength is all-encompassing.
In terms of individual combat strength, he is recognized by the legion as the pinnacle of swordsmanship, with exquisite sword skills and strong individual combat strength.
At some point in the future, he might even be able to kill the Bloodthirster in the Warp with only his mortal body and detonate it in some incredible way.
As for his command abilities, he is the living embodiment of the word "outrageous".
Looking at his record, one often gets the illusion that "this person is favored by the Emperor."
One of the most famous battles was when he led a thousand Ultramarines to defeat an army of one million Tau.
It should be noted that the T'au Empire's technology, tactics, and organization are among the best in the Milky Way.
However, they were still utterly defeated by Sicarius's seemingly precognitive battlefield tactics and the Ultramarines ' unreasonable and ruthless fighting power.
However, at this moment, this proud swordsman was on the verge of exploding with jealousy.
