"My second uncle!" Yin Li scratched the back of his head, completely oblivious to Feng Yang's complicated feelings. "He's incredibly smart, with exceptional talent for business. At sixteen, he independently completed an especially complicated merger and acquisition plan. That case is still a classic example taught at many business schools. My grandfather often says that if my second uncle weren't too flighty by nature, he would have handed the group over to him. Most importantly, my second uncle isn't just gifted in business—he's good at eating, drinking, and having fun too. Anyway, he's the person I admire most."
As he said this, Yin Li suddenly looked at Feng Yang. "Oh, right. I think you're quite similar to my second uncle. You two would definitely get along."
"Is that so?" Feng Yang smiled faintly. "Now that you've said that, I'm even more curious."
As they spoke, Yin Li's friends gathered around as well. Hearing this, Duan Mingxu, Yin Li's childhood friend, suddenly said, "Oh, right. Your second uncle has recently become very interested in metaphysics and fate-reading. He never used to believe in that stuff. He was even the sort of person who wouldn't hire a feng shui master before breaking ground on a construction site, yet he's secretly keeping a celestial master on retainer now. Have you heard about that?"
"What?" Yin Li froze briefly, then asked, "How do you know something even I don't know?"
"I heard it from an actress in our company." Duan Mingxu added indifferently, "Jiang Yingna—the one who made headlines with your second uncle over a dating rumor some time ago."
Jiang Yingna was a rising star heavily promoted by Duan Mingxu's family's film and television company. She became famous overnight after playing a demoness in an xianxia drama. After that, Yin Li's second uncle took a liking to her, and she was rather favored. However, Jiang Yingna had not learned about this from Yin Zhengyi himself. She had eavesdropped on one of his calls. At the time, Yin Zhengyi was always taking calls behind her back, and she thought he had taken a fancy to some other little vixen. Instead, it turned out to be an ethereal-looking male celestial master.
Jiang Yingna was immediately relieved. She even treated it as a joke and told a close girlfriend about it, specifically warning her not to spread it around. But as everyone knew, where were there any secrets in the entertainment industry?
"Oh!" Yin Li scratched his face in confusion. He had never believed in ghosts or gods before, but after personally witnessing the worldview-shattering sights of ghosts dancing at graves and ghosts hooking up in a KTV, he had no choice but to believe.
"I didn't expect my second uncle and I to be so in sync." Yin Li chuckled foolishly. "I wonder what the celestial master my second uncle hired is like. Is he as capable as our Feng Yang?"
Feng Yang looked coldly at the silly Yin Li and suddenly felt that he had gotten something wrong.
Their Yin Li was naturally countless times better than that inexplicable darling of Heaven's Dao in looks, temper, and personality. But when it came to intelligence... perhaps the two of them really were evenly matched!
Chapter 28
"Although your Songjiang City is a little small, it's quite beautiful."
That night, Feng Yang settled Yin Li and his group of friends into a nearby hotel. A whole bunch of young men in their early twenties were at the restless age—how could they possibly stay obediently cooped up in a hotel? So after booking the rooms, Feng Yang took everyone downstairs to a KTV to sing.
However, perhaps Duan Mingxu and the other childhood friends had been traumatized by the matter of vengeful ghosts hooking up. They refused to step into the KTV no matter what. Left with no choice, Feng Yang drove the whole carload to the riverside to enjoy the night view.
Holding a bowl of stir-fried mung bean jelly that Feng Yang had specially ordered for him when they passed a food street intersection, Yin Li ate as he said, "The food is pretty good too."
Feng Yang looked at Yin Li with gentle eyes. In his previous life, when he had wandered with the vengeful ghost, he had traveled to many places, seen much scenery, and eaten many delicacies. His greatest wish had been that one day, he could let the vengeful ghost taste those foods as well. Unfortunately, once the vengeful ghost had died, he had long lost the five senses and six perceptions of a human being. As an evil ghost, his desires were bottomless and food had no taste to him. Yet he loved seriously discussing with Feng Yang what every dish was supposed to taste like and how it should be paired to taste better.
"Stir-fried mung bean jelly goes with tea eggs." His long fingers moved deftly, lightly peeling away the shell of a tea egg to reveal the brownish-yellow egg white beneath.
Feng Yang placed the peeled tea egg into Yin Li's bowl. The egg's tea fragrance mixed with the rich sesame paste flavor of the stir-fried mung bean jelly, its savory aroma making everyone even hungrier.
Duan Mingxu and the others looked at one another. They were clearly all eating the same local specialty, even food ladled from the same pot. Why did Yin Li's bowl of stir-fried mung bean jelly look more appetizing than theirs?
That made no sense!
Duan Mingxu poked listlessly at the stir-fried mung bean jelly in his bowl. After thinking it over, he suddenly understood. Right—it had to be because of the tea egg.
"Master Feng, give me one too." Unable to resist the temptation, Duan Mingxu swallowed. He had always hated eggs, especially boiled eggs. But for good food, he could change some of his preferences.
Though the others said nothing, they silently held their bowls out as well.
Feng Yang chuckled and distributed the remaining bag of tea eggs among them. Then he turned back to coax Yin Li. "Songjiang's grilled skewers are good too. We can try them tonight."
Yin Li continued nodding, his head bent over his food like an obedient large dog.
Feng Yang added, "Tomorrow, my whole family is going back to the village to pay respects to our ancestors. Do you want to come along? The countryside is actually quite fun too. Have you ever gone up a mountain to catch rabbits? Climbed trees to pick fruit? Gone into a river to catch fish? My grandfather has a huge iron pot at home, and stew made in it is especially fragrant. We can catch fish ourselves, and I'll stew them for you."
Yin Li was just about to nod when he suddenly remembered something. He immediately looked at Feng Yang with some difficulty and cautiously asked, "Going back home to pay respects to ancestors... does that mean visiting graves?"
When Yin Li and Feng Yang had gone to Sheep Village to save people before, the sight of those resentful ghosts dancing atop the graves had been too unforgettable. Although Yin Li now had the Vengeful Ghost Talisman to protect him, the thought of those scenes still made his scalp tingle.
Feng Yang smiled. "It's fine. Our ancestral graves are very clean."
Duan Mingxu and the others, seated nearby, exchanged looks before carefully asking, "Master Feng, um... when will our protective talismans be ready?"
