Background / History

Yin Li grew up largely under his grandparents' care while his parents focused on Yin Corporation. Surrounded by indulgence and flattery as the eldest grandson of the Yin family's main branch, he developed a domineering temper and a particular hatred of being deceived, dismissed, or looked down upon. 23

In his past life, he was kidnapped on his twenty-second birthday on Yin Zhengyi's orders and brutally tortured to death as part of a sacrifice. The resentment of that death turned him into a Ghost King, the Vengeful Ghost whom Feng Yang knew before being reborn. 110 117

In the reborn timeline, Yin Li returns from abroad after his sister Yin Qing is rescued from traffickers. He first meets Feng Yang beneath a peach tree in Peach Blossom Village, immediately blurting out an offer to “repay” Feng Yang by offering himself in his sister's place. 22 23 The two quickly bond over their shared interest in time capsules, burying one together with a photograph and agreeing to revisit it four years later. 24

Yin Li joins the rescue operation in Sheep Village despite Feng Yang's objections, bringing eight bodyguards and offering his sanda training to help protect the group. 27 After Feng Yang shields him from Huo Yanran's memory-erasing ghost arts, Yin Li becomes one of the few living people aware that ghosts exist. 30

His relationship with Feng Yang develops from awkward attraction and repeated misunderstandings into a mutual confession. He falls for Feng Yang at first sight, accidentally makes an outrageous first impression, and later tries to disguise a confession as a discussion of “tuberculosis symptoms.” 23 31 His awkwardness contrasts sharply with the colder, more composed Vengeful Ghost Feng Yang remembers from the past life. 24

Although he considers himself hot-tempered, Yin Li actively restrains himself when he fears upsetting Feng Yang. His privileged upbringing made him domineering and sensitive to disrespect, but he is easily soothed by affection and reassurance. 23 30
