Personality

Tie Li initially presents himself as composed, confident, and courteous, particularly around Liu Yiyi and her father. His politeness is calculated: he pursued Liu Yiyi for years because her cultivation feedback and family connection could aid his path to Foundation Establishment 102 112.

He is petty, vindictive, and deeply status-conscious. He dismisses Wang Mengde as “trash” because of his Five-Element Spirit Root, rejects his application to the Black Shark Fleet, and physically humiliates him without provocation 50 103. When Wang Mengde gains Liu Yiyi's attention, Tie Li's jealousy turns into obsessive resentment and murder plots 111 112.

His desire for advancement ultimately outweighs any concern for Liu Yiyi. He refuses her offers of compensation because he views her as a source of cultivation gains and a bridge to her Foundation Establishment father; when she attempts to leave, he resorts to drugging, imprisoning, and coercing her 112 116 117.

Story Role / Major Arcs

Rejection of Wang Mengde

When Wang Mengde applied to join the Black Shark Monster-Hunting Fleet, Tie Li refused him despite Wang's high-level Spirit Eye and Entwining Silk Techniques. Having agreed to Liu Yiyi's earlier request to keep Wang out of the fleet, Tie Li insulted him as “trash” and knocked him away with spiritual power 50.

Seven Star Reef Disaster

Tie Li responded to Chen Bigmouth's report of blood-red demon fish near Seven Star Reef. His monster-hunting ship was subsequently destroyed by two eighth-layer Blood-Spirit Flying Shuttles; Tie Li escaped by using a defensive talisman and fleeing through the air 66 68.

Wave-Chasing Flying Fish Operation

As an Island Patrol captain, Tie Li joined Wang Mengde, Liu Yiyi, and Yan Chang in pursuing the Wave-Chasing Flying Fish. He deployed the Dragon-Locking Net and hoped to claim the high-level demon fish, but grew visibly jealous when Liu Yiyi praised Wang's Spirit Eye Technique 106 107.

After Wang saved Liu Yiyi from the demon fish, Tie Li found the pair in an intimate embrace. He restrained himself in public, but began plotting revenge against both of them 111 112.

Coercion and Downfall

When Liu Yiyi insisted on ending their Dao companionship, Tie Li refused compensation because he still needed her spiritual energy and connection to Liu Yuanming. He acquired Aphrodisiac Powder, sealed her spiritual power with Spirit-Softening Powder, and imprisoned her with the Dragon-Locking Net and Demon-Binding Rope 112 116 117.

Tie Li lured Wang Mengde to his residence with a forged Voice Transmission Talisman, intending to ambush him. Wang saw through the trap, used a substitute to trigger the net, and struck Tie Li with Palm Thunder, destroying his dantian 117.

Wang Mengde kept the crippled Tie Li alive temporarily to falsify his movements, confiscated his possessions, and ultimately killed him with another Palm Thunder strike. His death was attributed to Golden Sun Sect cultivators 119.
