Background / History

Tang San is a transmigrator from another major plane, a world without Soul Masters. Da Ming reveals that Tang San brought hidden weapons, poison techniques, and cultivation methods from that world, then modified them for use by Douluo Continent's Soul Masters. Much of the later Tang Sect's Mysterious Heaven Treasure Record derives from this inheritance. The disclosure shocks Qian Renxue, Ning Fengzhi, Spirit Hall, Sea God Island, and the gods, who had previously regarded him as a native genius. 243

In his life on Douluo Continent, Tang San is the son of Tang Hao and Ah Yin. Ah Yin sacrifices herself when Qian Xunji and Spirit Hall's forces threaten the family, enabling Tang Hao to become a Titled Douluo and save himself and the newborn Tang San. Historical discussion describes Tang Hao as subsequently becoming withdrawn and paying little attention to Tang San before his martial soul awakening. 248

Tang San establishes the Tang Sect and views its continued inheritance as worth continental bloodshed. When the Heavenly Screen reveals the future sect's conduct, the four great clans fear that he will repeat the Clear Sky Sect's abandonment of them; the Speed, Defense, and Breaking Clans leave him, while the Strength Clan's Tai Tan remains behind. He acquires Divine Slaughter's Domain through Slaughter City. Seeking to destroy the city, he throws the Snow-Colored Swan Kiss into its Bloody Mary reservoir, amplifying its accumulated toxins and poisoning the entire city. Tang Chen, then the King of Slaughter, is poisoned as a result; Tang San later realizes that he has inadvertently killed his own great-grandfather. 33 80 81

After learning that he is destined to become the Sea God, Tang San heads for Sea God Island with Dai Mubai, Zhu Zhuqing, Ma Hongjun, and Bai Chenxiang. Sea Soul Masters reject the prospect of a Land Soul Master becoming Sea God, attack his party in Vast Sea City, seal the ports, and destroy the harbor's ships rather than let him sail. 44 45 50

The pursuit prevents him from hearing Yin Hongye's public explanation of Soul Core cultivation while other powerful Soul Masters begin adopting it. After prolonged delays, Dai Mubai helps secure a Star Luo warship, but the Evil Spirit Killer Whale pack destroys it, forcing Tang San and his companions to hide beneath the Vast Sea Cosmic Shroud. Poseidon later assists another voyage by manipulating ocean currents, though sea soul beasts continue attacking ships in response to the Evil Orca King's bounty. 46 53 62 106

Tang San eventually reaches Sea God Island, but Bo Saixi and the Seven Sacred Pillars seek vengeance for Tang Chen. Poseidon repeatedly restores Tang San so that the trials can continue despite the punishment inflicted on him. 117 119

His arrival follows Yin Hongye's karmic sword strike across time, which kills him at sea, splits his ship, and scatters Dai Mubai, Zhu Zhuqing, and Ma Hongjun. The Asura God secretly reconstructs his body before Poseidon imposes the Sea God's Nine Trials. Bo Saixi discovers that the first trial involves a wet kiss with his brother, while the ninth requires him to subdue every sea soul master and sea soul beast. She interprets these conditions as evidence that Poseidon has abandoned him to punishment. 117

Xiao Bai, the Demon Soul Great White Shark King, also turns against Tang San after seeing her clan's future through the Heavenly Screen. Recorded Future History

Tang San completes the Sea God's path and later returns from Sea God Island with at least seven trials completed. During the conflict at Jialing Pass, he battles Rakshasa God Bibi Dong and Angel God Qian Renxue, dies from their combined assault, and is revived through Oscar and Ning Rongrong's divine inheritances. He then gains Asura Godhood in addition to the Sea God's position. 83 138

After completing his seventh Sea God trial, Tang San learns from Hu Liena that Bibi Dong and six Spirit Hall elders are hunting the Azure Bull Python and Titan Giant Ape. He uses the Sea God's Trident to ambush them, killing Gui Mei, and ultimately obtains the two beasts' soul rings and soul bones. Earlier, he had helped Hu Liena survive Slaughter City's killing path and obtain Divine Slaughter's Domain. 82 83

Before becoming a god, he forcibly absorbs three Thousand Jun Ant Emperor soul rings in Star Dou Forest, leaving his soul power unstable and himself nearly defenseless. Qian Renxue, already the Angel God, waits until he finishes recovering rather than attacking him immediately. Yin Hongye and Mu Hongchen later identify this as a decisive missed opportunity to kill him. 135

During his fatal confrontation with Bibi Dong, Sword Douluo Chen Xin and Bone Douluo Gu Rong sacrifice themselves in an attempt to protect him. Even at his weakest, Tang San produces a divine soul attack that briefly disrupts Bibi Dong, but she crushes his Sea God's Heart, and Oscar retrieves his corpse. Chen Xin and Gu Rong are not subsequently revived. 147

Later revelations expose disputes over his conduct as a god. His Sea God consciousness intervenes through Tang Wulin in the lower realm, and his divine decree concerning his daughter Tang Wutong draws an accusation from the Destruction God King that he has violated the prohibition on divine interference. The decree occurs after Ju Zi reveals that Xu Yunhan is Huo Yuhao's illegitimate son. Tang San descends onto the battlefield, orders Ju Zi to return the Star Luo Empire and rename the Sun Moon Empire the Heaven Dou Empire, and takes Tang Wutong back to the God Realm. His intervention is presented as a direct reshaping of the lower realm's political settlement. 148

He also entrusts management of the Clear Sky Sect to Da Ming and Er Ming and makes Tang Wutong its young master. The revelation enrages the earlier Clear Sky Sect's elders, who order an investigation into his whereabouts. Tang San revives his mother, Ah Yin, and makes her the Life Core of Douluo Continent. Revelations about the Golden Tree lead Mu En to question whether successive Sea God Pavilion masters' sacrifices have benefited her; Tang Hao is also identified as effectively controlling the plane's authority. These discoveries further anger the Destruction God King. 181 182

Accounts of the God Realm identify Tang San as the leader of the Five Great God Kings after Kindness and Evil disappear. The earlier Kindness and Evil God Kings regard the wording of their disappearance with suspicion, while Destruction likewise suspects that circumstances surrounding their successors and Tang San's rise have not been fully explained. These suspicions do not establish that Tang San caused their disappearance. 244

God Realm Interrogation and the Ten-Thousand-Year Plan

The Destruction God King attacks Tang San over his interference in mortal affairs and demands the God Realm Core. Tang San's Sea God power cannot withstand him, and attempts to invoke Asura power fail even with Xiao Wu's assistance. The Goddess of Life separately attacks him after discovering that he split Xiao Qi's soul, leaving him badly injured against a broken pillar. 149 178

Destruction renews the assault after learning about Ah Yin and Tang Hao's positions on Douluo Continent. Tang San's armor is shattered, and he is eventually confined in chains in a side hall. During repeated demands for the God Realm Core, Destruction strikes whenever Tang San tries to speak, creating a misunderstanding in which he interprets Tang San's inability to answer as stubborn refusal. 183 190 222

Discussion of the God Realm's lost opportunity to expand and the Abyss Plane brings further scrutiny. Tang San privately thinks of his Ten-Thousand-Year Plan and admits to himself that he has not yet chosen which plane to lure to Douluo Continent for his parents to devour. His plan is not yet fully formed at this point, and he is bewildered by accusations concerning developments he has not knowingly completed. 195

The Evil God King condemns the failure to report the Abyss rift, explaining that deities must report discovered planar rifts to the God Realm Committee. He argues that Tang San is unfit to serve as an enforcer whether the omission resulted from ignorance or deliberate concealment; the Asura God admits that he misjudged his successor. Further revelations state that the ocean acknowledges Tang San as its master, leaving the native Plane Lord without control over it. The Five Great God Kings blame his seizure of ocean authority and his family's occupation of the plane's governing positions for ecological imbalance and weakened planar laws that give the Abyss an opening. Poseidon admits that he never took this authority himself, undermining Tang San's claim that the consequences merely followed from inheriting the Sea God position. Destruction intensifies his interrogation, while the earlier Goodness God King orders harsher trials. 246

Personality

Tang San is intensely proud of the Tang Sect and treats its legacy as more important than the lives lost in sustaining it. He insists that he is “pure and spotless” when accused of being an Evil Soul Master, even as revelations about Slaughter City, Tang Chen, and the Tang Sect turn public and clan opinion against him. 4 61 80

He is deeply conservative regarding Tang Sect traditions. Tang San rejects the future sect's transition from hidden weapons to soul tools, arguing that descendants who abandoned hidden weapons should have eliminated soul-tool development instead. 75 76
