Asauchi were blades no Soul Reaper could avoid.
Even figures as powerful as Ichibē Hyōsube and Genryūsai Shigekuni Yamamoto, as weak as first-year students at Shin'ō Academy, or as unconventional as Kenpachi Zaraki were all bound by fate to these blades.
They were Soul-Cutter Swords as white as blank paper, the initial form of all Soul-Cutter Swords.
They were forged by the Phoenix Palace's master, the "God of Blades," Ōetsu Nimaiya, then bestowed upon young people with the talent to become Soul Reapers.
Over the long decades, centuries, or even millennia to come, Soul Reapers honed their skills and Reiatsu, tempered their will and spirit, and forged bonds of life and death with the blades in their hands through battle after battle and Sword Zen after Sword Zen.
By learning its true name, they achieved Shikai; by subduing their Soul-Cutter Sword, they achieved Bankai.
A Soul-Cutter Sword's abilities and appearance were closely tied to its wielder's experiences and will. It could almost be considered a reflection of a Soul Reaper's heart.
Normally, aside from extraordinary geniuses, most Soul Reapers needed time to communicate with their Asauchi before learning the true name of the blade in their hands and gaining the most important power of a Soul Reaper: the power of their Soul-Cutter Sword!
But Uchiha Yato did not need that.
As a transmigrator, he had been with the girl day and night from the very day he appeared in Rukongai.
He knew who he was, and he knew even more clearly what the girl was.
And so, he took the surname Uchiha for himself.
All Yato lacked was an Asauchi.
Late that night, in the Horiuchi family's sinister dungeon, that Asauchi pierced his chest.
Though it differed from the normal method, Yato's soul and Reiatsu had indeed come into contact with the core of the Asauchi.
That was enough.
In an instant, he fused everything he possessed with that blank-white Asauchi.
Reiatsu, will, soul, and most importantly... her.
Yato opened his eyes and looked upon the boundless, pitch-black sky.
Countless colossal stone pillars stood across the land like the gravestones of gods.
Other than that, the endless space contained only Yato and the girl.
"This place of yours kind of resembles the Kamui Dimension."
Yato lay down beside the girl's feet, resting one arm behind his head.
"What's wrong? Still mad?" Yato poked her calf, his tone gentle. "Sorry. I shouldn't have put myself in danger. I..."
"I'm not mad at you." The girl in Sengoku-era armor puffed out her cheeks and spoke in a muffled voice. "I just felt so useless back then. I couldn't die fighting alongside you. All I could do was watch from the side."
"From the sound of it, if something happens to us someday, you won't be sad either?"
"Of course not." The girl's expression was utterly serious. "If you perish, I break. That is how it should be between a Soul Reaper and a Soul-Cutter Sword."
"Hey, hey, hey? Is that really right? I thought you'd be like Zangetsu and treat my life as the most important thing."
"In your dreams."
"I'm hurt, I'm hurt. I need a beautiful girl to hug me before I can get up."
"Get out of here, you!"
"Don't kick me, don't kick me..." Yato begged with a grin, stretching lazily. "Let me recover first. I was hurt too badly tonight. Who knows how long it'll take to heal?"
"Hmph, idiot."
The nameless girl cursed him again, but she did not kick him. Instead, she lay down beside him.
Yato stared blankly at the dark sky for a long while before speaking again.
"Tell me... how did I somehow transmigrate into the world of Bleach? And with the powers of an Uchiha? Could it be because of that Bleach vs. Naruto poster by my bed? Sigh, I should've played Dragon Ball instead."
Naturally, the girl could not answer that question. She merely played with Yato's hair and occasionally giggled foolishly.
Yato did not mind and continued muttering to himself.
"Tell me, what kind of attitude should I take toward the people in the world of Bleach?"
"According to the information I just got, Byakuya Kuchiki entered the academy this year. He seems to be only two or three years ahead of Ichimaru Gin?"
"If that's the case, Kirio Hikifune will be heading to the Soul King Palace in less than five years, and Kisuke Urahara will soon succeed her as captain of the 12th Division."
"I imagine that guy Aizen has already gotten his soul Hollowfication experiments well underway."
"Aizen Sosuke... tsk, tsk. The moment that name comes up, even a transmigrator has to take him seriously."
"His Soul-Cutter Sword, [Kyoka Suigetsu], possesses the terrifying ability of Complete Hypnosis. It is without equal, the strongest among illusion-type abilities."
"I've been thinking about it lately. If it comes down to an illusion battle, maybe I have a way to guard against that trick of his?"
"Still, battles between Soul Reapers are battles of Reiatsu. If I want to resist Kyoka Suigetsu, I need at least captain-class Third-Class Reiatsu."
"Come to think of it, it's a good thing I grew up looking like an Uchiha. Otherwise, in a place packed with handsome men and beautiful women, the pressure on me would be way too much. Hahaha..."
He paused, his tone growing increasingly solemn.
"Actually, I really want to visit the Soul King Palace too, and ask that omnipotent creator god whether it is truly a good thing for Hueco Mundo, the Soul Society, the World of the Living, and Hell to remain divided into four worlds."
"He allowed the ancestors of the Five Great Noble Houses to seal him, and he allowed Yhwach to replace him and create a new world. What kind of future does he believe the world should have?"
"Besides."
"I want to sit upon the throne in the sky too."
The boy extended his five fingers and clenched them toward a gigantic distant gravestone, then rose to his feet.
"I'm leaving, partner." He closed his eyes, gathering razor-sharp resolve between his brows. "There are many people outside who need me to kill them."
The girl licked her lips and pretended to advise him, "Yato, don't forget that you're injured."
"I know."
Yato turned back, his gentleness reaching the utmost extreme. "Then let me formally introduce myself... Uchiha Yato."
What answered him was the girl's fervent embrace.
And a name.
District 62 of Eastern Rukongai, [Flower Withers], Soul Society. The Horiuchi family basement.
Horiuchi Yuma stabbed the Asauchi into Uchiha Yato's chest. Less than half a second later, he sensed that something was wrong.
As a noble, he had been born with twenty levels of Reiatsu and could sense changes in Reiatsu.
In his perception, the Asauchi in his hand was like a tree rooted in the earth. It had completely slipped out of his control and come to belong to someone else.
At the same time, an entirely different Reiatsu erupted with Uchiha Yato at its center.
"What's going on? Kidō?"
He leaped back in panic, drenched in sweat in an instant.
With his limited knowledge, he could not connect the scene before him with Shikai.
Beside him, Horiuchi Yosuke drew his own Soul-Cutter Sword and stepped half a pace forward, shielding his son.
That Reiatsu, that sensation, stirred a terrifying, even absurd speculation in his heart.
Under the father and son's monster-struck gazes,
Yato slowly opened his eyes.
His pitch-black pupils turned crimson.
Tomoe slowly revolved within them.
He spoke the girl's name.
"Let's go..."
"[Scarlet Eye]"
