Background

Soul Reapers are combat-trained souls affiliated with Soul Society. Their work ranges from emergency response and criminal investigation to combating Hollows and rogue Soul Reapers. The Gotei 13 also deploys them into hostile regions such as Hueco Mundo and violent high-numbered Rukongai districts. 10 40 79 94

The path normally begins at Shin'ō Academy, where students study spiritual power, swordsmanship, Kidō, hand-to-hand combat, Flash Step, and Soul Society theory. Students with exceptional ability may complete Shikai before graduation and enter the Gotei 13 directly as Seated Officers. 2 13 15

A Soul Reaper's most personal weapon is their Soul-Cutter Sword. Its abilities and form reflect its wielder's experiences, will, and heart; wielder and blade are regarded as inseparable partners who live and die together. 8 13 73

Organization and Rank

Appearance

Soul Reapers are typically recognized by their black uniforms and carried Soul-Cutter Swords. Their exact appearance, spiritual pressure, and equipment vary widely by individual and rank. 5 10

Reiatsu
