At thirteen, Itachi defeated Inabi, Yashiro, and Tekka after they confronted him over Shisui's death. The three subsequently branded him a traitor and sought to use Izumi as bait because of her closeness to him 5.

Before the planned destruction of the Uchiha clan, Itachi was used as Konoha's informant within his own family. Sasuke tells Fugaku that Itachi had already leaked clan intelligence to the Third Hokage, a possibility Fugaku struggles to accept 19.

Hiruzen Sarutobi and Danzō summon Itachi to Root and claim that the Uchiha will launch a coup the following day. They order him to participate in the clan's extermination that night, framing the operation as necessary for Konoha's peace. Itachi agrees only after extracting assurances that Sasuke will be protected; Hiruzen and Danzō privately intend to eliminate both brothers afterward 30.

On the night the operation begins, Itachi encounters Izumi while she is carrying dumplings. Though visibly pained by the decision, he places her under genjutsu and prepares to give her a peaceful final dream before Sasuke interrupts him 32.

Personality

Itachi is initially defined by self-sacrificing loyalty to Konoha. He accepts the role of his clan's executioner because he believes it will preserve village peace, even when it requires him to harm people he cares about 30 32.

His affection for Sasuke and Izumi remains a decisive weakness in that loyalty. He invokes Sasuke's safety to deter Hiruzen and Danzō, and Sasuke's apparent threat to Izumi provokes him into escalating to Susanoo 30 36.

After suffering Sasuke's retaliatory illusion—where he repeatedly experiences the murder of an imagined wife and children—Itachi recognizes that forcing Sasuke through such trauma was selfish. Confrontation with Sasuke

Itachi attempts to incapacitate Sasuke with Tsukuyomi, but Sasuke's Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan reverses control of the illusion. Sasuke forces Itachi to experience an idealized future with Izumi before repeatedly destroying that future through visions of his family's murder 33 34 35.

Awakening and Defeat
