Upon hearing that the Jaw Fossil was about to be successfully revived, Lin Mo's heartbeat quickened along with his steps. As he followed Steven through the corridor, he could not help but lighten his breathing.
Inside the inflatable fish tank on his chest, Feebas seemed to sense his nervousness as well. It gently bumped its little head against the tank wall, as if telling him not to worry.
When they pushed open the metal doors of the Revival Laboratory, a scent mixed with nutrient solution and ozone rushed over them.
The laboratory was even quieter than before. Every researcher's gaze was focused on Revival Chamber Number Three in the center—
Inside the translucent cylindrical container, the pale green liquid had already turned clear. At its center, a tiny figure was slowly stretching its body.
"It's awake."
The old researcher's voice trembled with uncontrollable excitement as he pointed at the fluctuating vital-sign graph on the revival chamber's screen.
"Vital signs are stable, gene sequence expression is complete, and there are no signs of rejection!"
Lin Mo hurried to the chamber and stared unblinkingly at the little creature inside.
It was a small dinosaur about half a meter tall, covered from head to toe in dark gray scales. The edges of those scales carried a faint metallic sheen, as though it wore a layer of fine rock armor.
Its head was large and round, with a protruding bony lump on its forehead. Its two amber eyes were round and bright, curiously studying the world outside the chamber. The laboratory lights reflected in its pupils like two dancing flames.
Most striking of all was its huge mouth—the bones of its upper and lower jaws were especially pronounced. The corners of its mouth curled up slightly, revealing two rows of fine, sharp little teeth. It looked both childish and imposing, carrying the majesty of an ancient predator.
Its limbs were short but sturdy, and the tips of its claws gleamed white. With a light scrape, they could leave faint scratches on the chamber wall. Its tail was short and thick, swaying restlessly from side to side and stirring ripples through the liquid.
"This is... Tyrantrum?"
Lin Mo stared at the Pokémon before him, silently repeating the little fellow's name in his heart.
Tyrantrum looked exactly like Bonnie's Tyrantrum from the anime in his previous life. Yet compared to the adorable appearance it had in the anime, this real Tyrantrum carried several more degrees of awe-inspiring dominance.
The old researcher pushed up his glasses and brought up a three-dimensional report.
"According to the Ancient Pokémon Database, the revived Pokémon before us is scientifically known as Tyrantrum. It is a dual Rock- and Dragon-type Pokémon, currently the only Pokémon among all Pokémon to possess both of these types.
"The bony layer beneath its scales is 1.5 times denser than that of ordinary Rock-type Pokémon. It retains the hardness of rock without losing the resilience of the Dragon type."
In the projection, Tyrantrum's skeletal structure was clearly visible. Its jawbones in particular were nearly one-third thicker than those of Pokémon of similar size, covered in dense muscle attachment points.
"This grants it astonishing bite force. Once it reaches adulthood, it can even bite through steel."
Lin Mo looked at the Tyrantrum inside the chamber. The little fellow seemed to notice his gaze and suddenly opened its mouth, letting out a babyish "Awoo!" The sound was not loud, but it carried an unquestionable presence.
It slapped the chamber wall with its claws, as if urging them to hurry up.
"Can we open the chamber now?"
Lin Mo asked, his fingertips already itching to touch the transparent barrier.
"Wait a little longer. Let's take a look at Tyrantrum's evolutionary form in its genetic fragments first!"
The old researcher pointed at another set of data on the screen. "This is information left behind in its DNA fragments—the evolutionary form extracted from them."
As the old researcher spoke, the three-dimensional projection suddenly switched—a massive dinosaur Pokémon appeared before everyone.
It stood nearly two meters tall, its body covered in dark brown rock scales. The bony spikes rising from its back resembled an unbroken mountain range, while the bony lump on its forehead had evolved into a pair of crown-like horns that gleamed coldly.
Most astonishing were its jaws. Its upper and lower jaws were like two massive battle-axes, with exposed fangs over thirty centimeters long. Every opening and closing motion seemed capable of tearing through the air.
"This is its evolved form, Tyrantrum—the king Pokémon of ancient times and one of the strongest predators on land."
The old researcher's voice was filled with amazement.
"After evolving, its Dragon attribute will become even more prominent. Its rock armor can withstand the vast majority of physical attacks, while its bite force will reach an incredible level. It can truly be called a 'mobile pulverizer.'"
In the projection, Tyrantrum opened its enormous jaws and roared wildly. A dark red wave of energy shot from its mouth and struck a virtual boulder, instantly blasting it into powder.
That world-destroying aura made everyone in the laboratory hold their breath.
Lin Mo's heart pounded wildly.
Tyrantrum was already surprising enough, but its evolved form perfectly embodied the word "dominance."
He could almost see the future: under his care, this little fellow would grow into something as majestic and awe-inspiring as the Tyrantrum in the projection.
The laboratory lights focused on the three-dimensional projection in the center. Tyrantrum's outline was clear and lifelike, from the texture of every scale to the white mane around its neck.
Steven stood with his arms crossed, his eyes full of admiration. The researchers beside him nodded repeatedly, unable to hide their appreciation.
"Congratulations, Lin Mo," Steven was the first to speak, his tone utterly sincere. "Your luck is really quite good. You chose an exceptionally powerful fossil Pokémon on your very first try. This little fellow has limitless potential for future growth."
The three-dimensional image continued rotating slowly. Lin Mo looked at the projected Tyrantrum and quickly replied with gratitude in his voice.
"I have to thank you, Mr. Steven. It was your generosity that gave me the chance to choose Tyrantrum."
Steven burst into hearty laughter, waved his hand, and spoke in a relaxed yet expectant tone.
"Hahaha, have you forgotten? This is the reward you earned for passing the 'test.' I hope you raise this Tyrantrum well. Once it grows up and you've gained enough experience, I'll have a proper battle with you!"
"Mr. Steven, I'll definitely raise Tyrantrum properly. I won't let you down."
Lin Mo answered firmly.
"Lin Mo, step forward first and get ready. I'm going to release Tyrantrum now."
The old researcher held a small, elegantly packaged bag of Pokémon Food in his hand. As he gently instructed Lin Mo, he gestured for him to approach the revival chamber.
"This is nutrient food specially prepared for carnivorous Pokémon. Take it and greet Tyrantrum with food. It will help the two of you grow closer faster."
Lin Mo hurriedly thanked him and stepped forward to accept the Pokémon Food. Once he was standing beside the revival chamber, the old researcher pressed the button to open it.
With a soft click, the revival chamber door slowly opened. The pale green revival liquid ran down the chamber walls and into the collection trough on the floor.
The Tyrantrum inside shook the liquid from its scales, wobbled its round little head, then took short steps forward and cautiously walked out of the container.
The moment it stepped out of the chamber, it immediately turned its head alertly to look around. Its little nose even sniffed lightly at the air.
Only when its gaze landed on Lin Mo, then caught sight of the bag of Pokémon Food in his hand, did its amber eyes light up. Most of its earlier vigilance vanished as it suddenly toddled toward Lin Mo.
Lin Mo instinctively crouched down, gently tore open the Pokémon Food package with his fingertips, took out a small food pellet, and slowly extended his hand.
Tyrantrum did not hesitate at all. It first leaned over to sniff his palm, then gently rubbed its head against his hand—
Right after that, Tyrantrum opened its huge mouth and swallowed the food pellet in one bite. After gulping it down, it smacked its lips instinctively, clearly still unsatisfied. It immediately moved closer to Lin Mo again, raised its head, and let out two soft roars, plainly asking Lin Mo for more Pokémon Food.
Lin Mo continued feeding Tyrantrum.
At that moment, Tyrantrum's status panel appeared before his eyes.
