Background / History

Susanoo is initially presented to the clan as the legendary third power associated with the Mangekyō Sharingan, alongside each pair of eyes’ two unique ocular techniques. Its appearance recalls Madara’s battlefield dominance and provokes tears, kneeling, and celebration among older Uchiha. Younger members, including Sasuke, know little about either Susanoo or the Mangekyō because knowledge of the clan’s highest power has faded or been withheld 17 18.

Kunwu’s inherited memories later reveal that Susanoo is not merely a chakra giant created by an ocular technique. Every Uchiha carries a dormant Guardian Spirit from birth. Awakening it fundamentally depends on soul strength, explaining why both Indra and Natsu can summon it at Three Tomoe 125.

This discovery makes Susanoo the foundation of a repeatable cultivation path rather than only a battlefield trump card. Natsu begins refining natural energy through it, then teaches other users. Susanoo is another self carried within its host’s soul, but it possesses almost no active consciousness. Natsu compares it to a sleeping beast: it can instinctively defend its host and unleash enormous destructive force, yet directing it to refine natural energy requires communication with those instincts rather than ordinary technique execution 125 227.

Individual spirits respond independently. Yaoyu and Yakumi’s exceptional combat coordination becomes a hindrance during cultivation because each Susanoo must separately absorb and process natural energy 227.
