Background

Yu Xiaogang devoted many years to studying Martial Soul theory and considers his mind a library of Martial Soul records. Ye Han's Sky-Piercing Spear is absent from that knowledge; Yu Xiaogang can only speculate that it is a rare mutated spear-type Martial Soul. His inability to identify it drives his interest in investigating Ye Han. 18

He trained Tang San from the age of six and regards Tang San's growth as the central proof of his own value as a theory master. After Tang San exposed the Clear Sky Hammer during his defeat by Ye Han, Yu Xiaogang consoled him, investigated Ye Han's background, and pressed Tang Hao to return Tang San before the Soul Master Tournament. 31 41

Yu Xiaogang later met Pope Bibi Dong, his former lover, to secure Tang San's tournament participation. Bibi Dong demanded that he choose between Tang San and Liu Erlong; Yu Xiaogang accepted the humiliation and later believed that Bibi Dong had agreed not to act against Tang San during the tournament. 41 51

Yu Xiaogang first learns of Ye Han through reports of the Sky-Piercing Spear God's undefeated Soul Arena streak. Unable to identify the Martial Soul, he treats Ye Han as a potentially decisive obstacle to Shrek's tournament ambitions. 17 18 21
