When she turned back, he was already gone.
"He's my younger brother, Albus Dumbledore." As if he had guessed Muya's first question, Dumbledore spoke first.
He smiled. "As you can see, we don't get along very well."
Just as Muya was wondering how to comfort him, Grindelwald came over carrying a plate of bread.
"You two talk. I'll listen in from the side." With that, he sat down beside Dumbledore.
Muya's thoughts of comforting someone instantly vanished, and she got straight to the point. "That senior student you mentioned yesterday, was she Chinese too?"
Dumbledore's hand paused. When his blue eyes turned toward her, it was as though he were looking through Muya at someone else.
"Yes, child."
"In fact, she was your mother."
Muya's eyes widened. "What?!"
She frowned and shook her head. "No, if she was my mother, then that means..."
Muya's eyes filled with disbelief, but Dumbledore nodded. "That's right. You originally belonged here."
Muya could not describe how she felt right now. Her mind was a mess. A mother she had suddenly learned about, the fact that she belonged in this place filled with magic... then what about her former life? What had happened?
"Then... was I abandoned in that world?" she asked instinctively, her voice slightly hoarse.
She felt as though mist had clouded her eyes, making Dumbledore's face impossible to see clearly. She blinked, and a tear slid from the corner of her eye.
She had no memories whatsoever of her mother. She was even missing many memories from her childhood, as if someone had deliberately erased them.
"I don't know those things, child."
"What confuses you, what leaves you lost... perhaps you'll need to seek the answers yourself."
Muya wiped her face and said goodbye to him.
